Was wondering if anyone can tell me how the Hotel Le Cantlie Suites on Sherbrooke might be. What other hotels might it compare too? Any info would be much appreciated.

I tried to find the previous Hotels thread using the search function but it only allowed a certain amount of threads to be posted and I couldn't figure out how to increase the amount of threads shown in my search. Hence my new Hotel thread.

Thanks,

SK

SK,
Can't help with your question, but thought this info may be useful in the new hotel thread.

The Delta Montreal on President Kennedy offers free high speed internet in your room. This may be important to some of you who like me are tired of paying $12-14/day for this service at some of the better hotels.

Hotel is an average 3-star, nothing special, but good for hobbying. Also the standard rooms are very large and have a balcony (which now has couple of inches of ice!)

It is nice appartment style hotel, not too expensive, but not really cheap either, but services there so/so.
For the $ there are better choices in montreal downtown.

question for all of you hotel afficionados.
Checked out the quality hotel on parc and at 59+tax for 4hr block comes to 71 with all taxes.
That is same for room with whirlpool at ideal or chablis and room seemed meh.
any suggestions for 4 hour siesta hotel around 50 in area of downtown?
St Jaques is not good for me.

I've used the above hotel on Parc many times for short day stays. Great location, not a st. jacques type dive at all. while that price won't get you a whirlpool, if you call ahead (that morning) on the day rooms, one can ask for a room on the executive floor...can't remember the exact floor number, but it has renovated rooms. this hotel has lots of tourist traffic.

perhaps some of the hotels on the west end of rene levesque have lower day rates.

any advice on:

Loews Hotel Vogue - do they even have internet? $150 special in march. And is this hotel still hostile towards sp's?

The Omni Mont-Royal Hotel. Looks nice, with highspeed wireless. Again $150. Any probs with sp's?

Delta Centre Ville. Anyone know if their internet access is still dial-up, or have they upgraded? A post above suggests the Delta Mtl have upgraded from dialup, so perhaps C-V has too?

Hotel-Suites Le Faubourg. I'll probably try this place out on my next visit in March. It looks good and has highspeed free. Anyone been here before and had any problems?

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Select and Le Saint Sulpice. I'd stay away from the Select, not worth it and no internet connection (I've realized I can't do without). Sulpice is nice and clean, with modern appointed suites.

I was there in December.

This hotel has great service, room service, and the best bathrooms with jacuzzi's i have seen in a long while- and i travel extensively for business.
The elevators are keyed for entry for hotel guests protection, and I had no problem with any sp visiting me-4 in all in 2 days.
The lady just goes in the front door day or nite turns right goes past the quaint lobby bar and takes the circular stairs to the 2 floor where you can meet her.
I was in the lobby both day and night and I think the problem is the doormen are courteous and trying too hard to help people especially when some good looking lady comes to the door they ask courteusly if they can help direct them to such and such and probably try too hard to help. If the lady doesn't handle the question correctly they may feel the doorman was pushing hard for a tip. I never saw or felt that.
I had dinner served in my room and it was as good as anything I could get in any restaurant in town, and service was great. Bed is tops too.

One thing I forgot to mention. I travel a lot for business and am in all the major hotel travel programs-gold on the better ones.
Most of them do not charge me for internet high speed. They remove the charge at checkout.
While a member of Loew's program, internet is $14.95 per day for everyone.

As usual, lots of useful information on the hotel threads, we really should have a sticky for all this.

For those looking for more spacious, apartment-style accomodation or extended stays, the following hotels may be of interest:

www.mariott.com
Residence Inn Montreal Downtown
Residence Inn Westmount
Think they both have complimentary high speed internet access

Clarion Hotel & Suites, http://www.clarionmontreal.com/index.html

La Presidence Suites, http://www.lapresidence.com

I believe all of them can be gotten for less than CAD120/night during the winter season; not the classiest hotels in Montreal but a fairly decent deal considering all the amendities provided.

Expedia seems to have discounted rates on some of these hotels but might want to take note of Expedia's fees and cancellation policy before deciding whether or not to book directly with the hotels.

I just stayed at the Delta Montreal this week. It's not crappy at all, and they now have high speed internet in the rooms at no extra charge.

I paid $139 per night for a very decent room with a king size bed, desk plus the high speed connection. IMHO, that's excellent value for a hotel within two minutes walking distance of both Sherbrooke and Ste. Catherine. It's also escort-friendly.

I very recently got the Delt Montreal on Kennedy through priceline for $30usd/night. 3 nights totaled $102. They were only offering rooms on floor 1-12 which is the lowest quality level rooms, but still not a bad 3* especially for 30/night. I also requested a room with high speed access which they were also able to give me. The rate for internet was 9.95/day. Overall a decent hotel for a very reasonable price.

priceline

I took a quick tour of priceline, pretending I was booking via expedia like I normally do (canuck here). From what I can gather from my brief overview of the service, you have to put in a bid and then give out cc info without knowing what hotel you're bidding for? Is there a way I can figure out what priceline will consider as a 3 or 4 star hotel?

Priceline is not only for US customers - though it is a US company. I believe if you are Canadian you may need to get a credit card from an American Bank or finance company like MBNA, which is easy. These companies bombard me with credit card applications and I am sure they will be happy to do the same for you irrespective of where you live. I was actually turned on to Priceline by a very wise Canadian hobbyist who lives in Ontario, who has multiple American based credit cards that he uses. This particular hobbyist, whose name I will not mention because he likes to keep a low profile, and Special K essentially taught me how to use Priceline, and how to use bidding strategies and make multiple bids to get the lowest price. It's actually quite easy to figure out. The Canadian hobbyist who taught me about how to use Priceline actually saved me from getting ripped off after I had booked what I thought was a good deal through Expedia.

Thanks E.B.,

I tried priceline, I bid $30 on the 3 star category, then this message came back:

Based on past priceline customer requests for hotels in this area, your offer price of $30 has only a small chance of being accepted.

You should, as a general guideline, expect to pay an average price of $148 per night for a 3-star hotel in the Montreal area if you called the hotel directly.

So I bid more, then when you get the credit card info, it seems to be only for U.S. billing adressess, wanting state and zip code

GHG,

Try this direct link to the FAQ's at "Biddingfortravel.com", It explains the way around having a non US address.

http://pub210.ezboard.com/fpricelineandexpediabiddinghotels.showMessage?topicID=6.topic

Also when the message stating "based on previous bids" comes up, hit the "skip this page" button or "Next" button. That has no bearing on whether or not your bid will be accepted.

As EB has mentioned previously and I've seen many times the http://www.biddingfortravel.com link is an invaluable resource to making hotel reservations.

If the Delta is willing to accept $30 that must mean its occupancy must be quite low . This sounds pretty desperate . Two years ago it was a dump . Maybe they have redone it .

If you think the Delta Montreal is a dump then you must also think every other 3* hotel in Montreal is a dump??? Sheraton, Holiday Inn Select, Novotel, etc....all of these hotels are either equal too or not as nice as the Delta Montreal so I don't really know what you're talking about.

By the way, just up until last year the Hilton Bonaventure could be had for $35/night in the off season. I suppose you think that's a dump also?

Canadian Credit Cards

I was talking to a Canadian friend about this recently. He told me that he followed the instructions noted by SK and has been able to book using Canadian credit cards, but it usually takes several attempts before the credit card is accepted (Visa and Mastercard).

I suspect you can get it much cheaper than that before or after President's day weekend.

Happy bidding!!!!!

EagerBeaver,

Thanks for the update on the Omni, I usually favor Hotwire over Priceline in the 4* category unless I'm confident that I'll get a hotel other than the Hilton which, according to several reviews have 3* rooms. With Hotwire, I usually get the Sheraton and have gotten the Sofitel using Priceline on several occasions; both of which are nice in their own way.

The Ritz-Carlton and Fairmont Queen Elizabeth have some pretty good deals too; use your American Express card and get 20% off the regular rates at any Ritz-Carlton and the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth has a 'stay 2 nights, get 3rd night free' promotion. See the respective websites for more details.

It's got to do with something with late 60's and early 70's architecture and design. I always had the feeling those building built in tha time were built as bunkers. They don't put much emphasis on windows and love the use of concrete (which is the case of the palais and bonaventure).
