Dragons den is coming back tonight on the CBC. Mostly the ideas are realy crappy and they just put people on to mock and humiliate them, but there are a few good business ideas.

Pros and cons on infant / adult toilet seat.

I will list the cons I see about theadult toilet seat, that is not to say that it is not a viable idea.

con - You can not patent a simple improvement on an existing product.

con - If you market the product sucessfully, a big company will come along and blow you away with their marketing and superior buying ability. ( first they will offer to buy you out for peanuts )

On another matter I think the guys with the waste disposal idea were raped by 5 super rich people on Canadian prime time TV. While this is not an original idea, I suspect that there enterpreneurs were planning to sell the bags at harware store chains and then franchise pick up with independant boom truck operators.
The problems I see here is that if the bag is not storng enough or if the house owners put too heavy a load into the bag, the bag will break. I can also see the boom truck operators being hit with heavy fines if the house owers place toxic waste into the bags.
As far as the dragons are concerned, I suspect that for their chump change they have contributed. They are looking foward to the day where laidlaw or other waste disposal firms will come along and buy this small upstart company out. It is harder to get rid of this small company when there is big money backing it.
For the $500,000. that was contributed by the dragons, this is only equal to 10 moderate salaries for one year - chump change!

It's so true that just because you have a great idea that that is only a small part of the battle. Ideas are a dime a dozen. It is the execution and financing that matter.

I too wondered if that waste disposal bag would hold an uneven load, or slightly oversized load which probably would happen all the time.

What the world really needs is a man-friendly toilet seat that automatically raises when a female puts it down!

Good television though.

Love this show. I liked the mastermoves guy and would actually consider buying his product. http://www.mastermoves.com/

It was funny that the one of the Dragons bought the Banana Guard for $5. You can buy them off ebay, if interested.

The bikini advertising was a complete joke. Guess CBC just wanted some girls wearing bikinis on the show.

Adding insult to injury.

I think it was insulting of the dragons to turn down the Banana Gaurd as a business venture and then offer to buy one or 2 banana gaurds off the enterpreneurs.

This week on the Dragons Den.

- Cardboard helmet: This idea has some merit, but now the whole country knows about it and there will be a rush of copy cats.

- Dog diaper: I have seen this product around before. This idea stinks.

- Vent kit: While this isa good idea, it will be hard to capitolize on it. It is just a couple of pieces of magnets and a coulple of metal disc. The Dragons were giving out charity on this one.

IMHO - Dragons Den is just a way for these people that have gotten fabulously wealthy to sit on their podium and say to the world....LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!

I really liked the cardboard helmets. At $3 a piece, I would buy every NHL team and put them in my den in order of the current standings.

I agree, the vent kit was charity to help out that single mom. It's why one of the dragons freaked out at the Boston Pizza guy.

The Peer FX internet money exchange is good. Those university students did the right thing allowing the dragons 51% of the business. Now they'll have direction on their product.

... and one of the guys actually wanted a discount for buying in bulk (in his definition "bulk" was 2 banana guards).

I thought that it was a very good idea also. My only worry is that now that the dragons own 51%, since they have control of the company, what is to prevent them from paying double or close to double of what they paid for 51% and buy out the students?

Because the valuation of the company has increased significantly with the dragons' involvement. :)

Yes but if person A owned 49% of a company and person B owned 51% of the same company and person B says "sell" and person A says "don't sell", who will win? Obviously, the person who owns 51% of the company.

Dragons will make money, win or loose.

The dragons will make money if these projects are a sucess, and they will write off the money they loose against their millions per year in revenue from other sources. This is all chicken feed to them.
As far as the money exchange goes, if the project is a rising sucess, then the dragons can buy the minority share holders out when they please. For example, if the business doubles every 3 months. they could be bought out after the 6th quarter. Imagine a ituation where the business continues to grow for 5 or 6 years quarter after quarter.

...and even if the idea wouldn't have made it before it got national TV exposure, the mere fact that masses of people have already been pitched can make the difference between a success or not. The value of the publicity received appearing on the show for five minutes is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. So, the dragons have the deck stacked in their favour.

The publicity is worth a lot of money.

If the idea is good then the publicity is priceless, if you are like that fool that tried to pitch the excercise program with no product then you make a fool of yourself on national television.
Other shows like, Americas got tallent is also good publicity for people who have talent. The others just make fools of themselves. All except for that WILLIAM HUNG guy was such a bad singer that they brought him back to make a fool of him. Did you know that he has made over $3 million dollars in appearance fees opening shopping malls and doing gigs at rich peoples barmitfahs?

What did you guys think of yesterday's episode?

1) I felt that the Dragons took it easy on the kids pitching the East Indian tomato soup.

2) I felt that the Dragons took advantage of the couple proposing the tea francise.

3) I felt sorry for the engineer who was trying to become the next Ronco.

4) The woman proposing "The Next Canadian Stripper" was very rude/abrasive... but then again so were the Dragons to a lot of the people pitching their wares. The stripper also seemed very uncomfortable. It looked as if she wanted the woman to stop talking.

I was throwing a cheque at the TV trying to buy 50% of Atomic tea! The Dragons hosed them.

The SC manager was so rude. Even if her idea was fantastic, I would never go into business with her.

the Dragons were bang on that the engineer needed to move on and stop feeling sorry for himself.
