It Will Follow (2014)

I saw a creepy, well done horror film on Netflix Streaming last night called "It Will Follow." It's about an evil spirit that transfers from one victim to another by means of sexual activity. Once transferred, it haunts, stalks and terrorizes the victims until they have sex with someone else and transfer "it" onto that person. The evil spirit takes various forms during the movie, but mostly zombie like apparitions that follow the victim and attempt violence, although "it" seems easy to escape from and elude, but it keeps persistently coming back and keeps terrorizing the primary victim, who in the movie is a cute 19 year old blonde haired girl.

I really liked that movie a lot! It's certainly not the best film to watch with a lady friend prior to intimacy LOL. However what I liked was that the characters in the movie actually made rational, and reasonable, if not brilliantly intelligent decisions. In most horror films, the characters are morons who make stupid decisions like opening up doors after hearing strange noises behind them etc. In this movie, there are young characters around 18-20 years old but they behave somewhat maturely and make some decent, rational decisions. Of course, those decisions do not end up working out for them, but it's a horror film, and if the source of the conflict was so easy to resolve, then there would be no movie. That being said, you would be hard pressed to criticize the decisions made by these characters and I feel like I might have made some of the same decisions if this happened to me.

It was an interesting idea for a film and they did a nice creepy movie with it. The cinematography and music enhance the creepiness of the film. It's a super creepy movie. Filmed in Detroit, Michigan with an American and Canadian cast.

The Conjuring 2

Same two actors, similar storyline supposedly based on true events. I'm not saying ghosts don't exist, but i'm not buying most of this movie. I was left disappointed by this movie since i really liked the first one and had seen it several times.

If i remember correctly this is a remake of a british tv movie.

I agree with you DH, the first conjuring film was much better then its sequel.

I have now watched Wonder Woman 4 times to date, not sure if its the story line or if i just have a crush on Gal Gadot.
I Love watching Keeping up with the Jones and Criminal also. Ok, maybe a little crush.
Keeping up with Jones is a comedy with some very funny actors and Criminal i find to be full of action and i liked the story line.

The Last of Sheila (1973)

I remember seeing this movie as a pre-teen and i remember really liking it. I may have seen it at a drive-in with the rest of my family back in 1973 or 1974. It played on TCM last fall or so and i used my pvr to record it. Well, i finally had a chance to see it this past weekend and it didn't disapoint.

What i also enjoyed was the discussion going on between the TCM host and a current movie director prior to the show's start. To my great surprise, the movie was co-written by actor Anthony Perkins who based the movie on his own experience with murder/mystery evenings he helped organize and participated in at the time. Perkins never wrote another screenplay afterwards which was strange considering how well received the movie was. It remains a favorite mystery/thriller movie among movie buffs today.

It stars several well-known actors of the 60's and 70's including James Coburn, Richard Benjamin, James Mason, Raquel Welch, Dyann Cannon, Joan Hacket & young Ian McShane. The characters were partly based on other well-known actors of the day among them participants in Perkins' murder-mystery soirees. The people they were based on included Orson Welles and Anthony Perkins himself. Raquel Welch had been told she and McShane would be playing the role of Ann Margaret and husband Roger Olson only to later learn that in fact she had been playing herself and one of her ex-husbands/boyfriends.

Raquel Welch was a big problem behind the scenes and eventually abandoned the production while accusing the director of assaulting her in her dressing room. But the actors backed the director and stated that Welch was an absolute bitch and diva on the set and impossible to work with. Welch eventually returned to the set to film her final scenes and only did so if accompanied with a bodyguard. Although the movie was successful and was popular among critics and movie goers, she has kept on proclaiming it as being a bad movie.

Do you know what the movie reminded me of? Murder on the Orient Express. Except that the background of the movie occurs on a yacht. To give you an idea of what the movie's plot line is about, it begins with movie producer Coburn's wife being run over and killed in a hit and run accident. Later, the eccentric Coburn invites 6 people on a mediterranean cruise in order to play a mystery game related to his now-deceased wife, who used to be a gossip columnist in Hollywood at the time of her death. These 6 people were all at his house party the night his wife was killed. Each of those 6 people are given a clue and we eventually realize that each clue describes a secret of each of the 6 participants, but the clues are given to different people instead and every night one of those clues is the key to that evening's game and it ends when it's discovered who is the person behind the clue. As the movie goes on, the game becomes deadly.

I highly recommend this movie and especially so if you like endings with a twist.

I saw The Last of Sheila decades ago. I don't remember much about other than the fact that I liked it. And (chuckle)....L.A.

I'd like to see it again.

Dirty Harry (1971)

Very good movie. This is the first of the five movies in the 'Dirty Harry' series. It stars rising star Clint Eastwood in the role of SF police detective Harry Callaghan. The movie was directed by long-time Eastwood ally Don Siegel and it's loosely based on the Zodiac serial killer murder spree. The movie may look outdated if you watch it today, but back then it was one of the most violent movies at the time and it's still top-notch as an action-triller. I recommend it.

The Rezort

Very well done British zombie film which I watched on Netflix streaming. It's Westworld with zombies. An island theme park populated with zombie prisoners who are killed for pleasure by rich tourists has its secuity system hacked with a virus by "Undead Rights Activists." The virus causes the security system to fail, the zombies are unleashed, and predictably, all hell breaks loose.

It's creepy and entertaining. The species of Zombie in this movie seems to be slower during the day, and much faster and more agile at night, seemingly, when the zombies use the cover of darkness well to sneak up on and bite their victims.

I recently saw Allied on Netflix.
That`s the movie that supposedly caused the break-up of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
I can see why. The love scenes between Brad and Marion Coutillard are filled with barely controlled passion. Chemistry is hot and the sex scene looks real.
She got pregnant during the filming. Although she has a partner the rumours were rampant that Brad was the sperm donor.

Hush (2016)

This horror film is available on Netflix streaming. Although it has pretty good reviews and is mildly entertaining, I was a bit disappointed in it. It's really more of a Halloween-type slasher film than a pure horror film. There are a bunch of loose ends with the plot, that are never tied together. The film is about a deaf young woman living alone in a secluded cabin in the woods. For reasons that are never really made clear, she is terrorized throughout the film by a masked man who appears at her window. It remains unclear throughout the film as to whether there was some prior relationship of some kind between the man and the woman, but strangely, and inexplicably, very early into the movie, the man removes his mask and stages the remainder of his terror spree unmasked the rest of the film. This made absolutely no sense to me, especially since the dude looks far more menacing with the mask on than he does unmasked. Also making no sense is that the deaf woman's boyfriend, "Craig", calls her at various points in the movie but we never see him show up when she does not return his calls. It's a bit formulaic but manages to keep you mildly interested. Not as good as "It Follows" or "The Rezort" among recent horror film releases.

Saw Valerian during my vacations, very good and it is rare but the spirit of the books,(how do you say bandes dessinées in english?) was really well transposed on the big screen.

I liked it well enough for the visuals and the story in itself was good enough, but the actors and the dialogue...ugh.

Baskin (2015)

I watched this critically acclaimed Turkish horror film last night on Netflix streaming. All dialogue is Turkish with English/French subtitles as needed.

It's a nasty, vicious, creepy little gorefest that is a bit slow in developing but the pace picks up at the 45 minute mark into the movie. It is about a small group of 5 Turkish police officers who receive a strange call to investigate and are subsequently haunted and terrorized by a group of demons. The movie seems to move back and forth between dream sequences and reality so that the viewer isn't sure what the hell is going on until the surprise ending.

GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: this movie contains some truly shocking scenes including a graphic disembowelment, a character having his eyes cut out and a male character being raped and being forced to rape another character. The demons in the movie do not take any prisoners and are truly evil, hellish characters that you don't hope to meet in your worst nightmare.

If you are interested in somewhat arty horror films, and can stand watching the above graphic content, I recommend.

Pretty as she is she can recite me the phone directory and I will still like her,and did apreciate her wearing a bikini top most of the film lol

Everytime she's in a movie, I want her to give an okay performance, and I'm disappointed. Her being pretty is the only reason I'm willing to give her that many chances.

But everyone was bad in Valerian IMO, aside maybe from Sam Spruell as the general.

The story about Brad Pitt & Marion Coutillard's love scenes being at the root of Brangelina's breakup was soon debunked. The breakup was caused by an incident aboard an aircraft where Pitt supposedly got violent with one of his sons. What i found out later was that Pitt was intoxicated and it led to the incident. My source in LA mentioned to me a few months ago that Brad Pitt is an alcoholic and has since sought counselling. I therefore conclude that his alcoholism is what led to the couple's breakup. Few marriages last when alcohol and drug dependency is involved.

As for the movie "Allied" i saw it at the movie theatre last spring. I enjoyed it since i'm a big fan of war movies. But if i compare it to say....Saving Private Ryan....it doesn't pass the grade. But it's still a very enjoyable movie to watch. I've yet to see "Dunkirk".

Look behind you.
Seen IT at the IMAX Thursday night, good movie and done well, the IMAX added to it.
Am watching Banshee now, there are 4 seasons and almost finished the first, good on my books, no drag time so far, something always going on, lotz of action and a cute Mennonite girl with a great body and perky breasts.
Waiting for Foreigner to hit the theatre.

Lily, going to a movie alone is fine, do not talk anyway anyway. If I want a relaxing night out I drive to a cinema, have a bowl of special cereal and catch a movie, have a pint on the way home and all is good.
Dinner alone no.
