KFC Employee's Fight With Gunman Caught On Tape
Fast Food Manager Fights Off Armed Robber In Statesville
STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Surveillance tape shows a frightening scene at a local fast food restaurant. A robber with a shotgun has his hand on the trigger as he threatens the manager of a Statesville KFC, saying “You’ve got one more spin, and I’ll shoot.”
The attacker even hits the innocent man with the gun.
But when the manager can't get the safe open, the robber points the gun and pulls the trigger.
Fortunately, for some reason, the gun doesn't fire. Then the manager decided to fight back.
“I didn't have a choice,” he told Eyewitness News. “I felt like he was going to pull the trigger.”
The manager’s head is now covered with gashes. He asked that his name not be revealed for his protection.
“I just figured I am going home to my family tonight,” he said. “When he stepped back, I felt he was putting another round in the chamber and he was going to shoot the gun.”
After an exhausting five minutes of fighting, the attacker finally left the restaurant. Once outside, he ran off.
Police are hoping that even though the man had a mask on, someone might recognize his voice or his mannerisms from the tape.
“We need this guy off the streets, badly. If he doesn't do another robbery in Statesville, he'll do one somewhere,” said Statesville Police Chief Steve Hampton.
The KFC manager is also afraid that next time the man strikes, his victim won't live to tell about it.
The victim says his attacker was 5 feet 7 inches or 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 220 pounds. He said the man had a stocky build and was either a tan white man or a light-skinned black man. The attacker was wearing all black with a knit hat and a black and white bandana covering his face.
Anyone with information that could help police should call Crime Stoppers at (704) 873-1981.
