Well here I was driving today in the rain in Montreal and was annoyed at the usual traffic, what else is new:rolleyes: And I was just asking myself the question that we all ask ourselves while driving:

Why is everybody else not as good a driver as me? You know we all believe that :D

So here is my list of what p.ss.s me off on the road, what is yours?

1) Why is it that the first person at the red light in front of me never sees it turning green before I do. Guess I should go into drag racing as a new career if I am that fast.

2) Why is it that the person merging onto the highway thinks that I must change lane so that he can merge all he wants anywhere, anytime. The yellow triangular sign by your entrance road means yield. So buddy I got news for you, I got priority and watch my boat trailer behind me.

TUTORIAL:First of match your speed to the speed on the highway as you are on the entrance ramp. Then look sideway, no not right, left, for the traffic and pic your empty spot to slot into when you reach the highway. Good got it?

3) Turn off your damn flasher if you are still going straight. Can car companies put a time limit on how long a flasher can blink?

4) Use your flasher if you are turning
and use it before you hit the breaks full bore, it will save my breaks and my adrenaline

5) Don't flash it right and make a long left, get ready to turn right, swerve as if you are driving a 18 wheeler. ( I have a lot of issues with the way people use their flasher)

6) If you are going the speed limit on the highway stay clear of the third left lane some of us like to break the law and contribute to paying some indirect taxes. You don't own the third lane, believe me I paid more than you did for the asphalt (see previous phrase).

Please don't start a speed kill argument. Get a driving education instead in Italy

7) Well I will go on but let's see what you have to say.

How about...on a nearly empty city street, 2 or 3 cars go leisurely side by side blocking all lanes and then suddenly speed up when the traffic lights turn yellow...and let you get stucked with the red.

That is a great one too

and how about the person in front of you that is stopped at the red light, along with a few other cars in front him,and doesn't see when it turns green. He is fiddling with the radio or the cell of course, then it turn yellow and he/she starts only to give you time to get stuck for the next red light.

This is my number one pain in the ass wherever I drive. I've always believed that the nimrods who go slower than (or exactly) the limit in the left lane cause more accidents than those who are speeding excessivly in it.

I have always thought this to be true!

Some a$$hole people that I barely know have told me that "they are saving lives by slowing crazy people down and intentionally blocking the lanes" First off if you know I am "crazy" why would you want to get in my way? A automobile is the most powerful weapon that all of us own....... so, you know that I am crazy(because I am flashing my high-beams on your butt, in the left hand lane) and you know that I am armed with a deadly weapon......... and unlike you, I am driving alone, while you are putting your whole family at risk! So who is really more insane(or just plain stupid): the guy who wants to speed or the guy who wants to piss him off? I hate the all the speed Nazi's of the world! I hope they all die for being the haters that they really are!

You do not need to stop 1/2 a kilometer behind the car in front of you at a light.
When coming out of a shopping center, you do not need to cut 3 lanes of traffic, while having your face buried in the cell phone.
Brakes are important, but you not need to be testing them every 100 feet on the highway

A little girl was recently killed while playing in the front lawn of her kindergarden by a teenager driving without a valid license. (and racing with his fellow idiot friend). However, lowering the speed limit for everyone and/or assigning a few more police to patrol is not going to avert future such tragedies.

A politician was once quoted as saying that he had pushed to lower the speed limit on a commercial street in his area because the local merchants wanted people to slow down to notice their stores and shop!

I got a ticket while travelling at the same speed as the rest of the traffic in a commercial district. I was going at 50 km/hr. I'm so dangerous!

Mine gives me a warning after a while (.8 KM according to the manual)

Tested it just for fun, left a blinker on, and *behold*, it did give me a warning (visual and audio). I do have the optional digital cluster though...

it's a '99 BTW...

If only I knew...
Peoples who brake for flies, mosquitoes, leafs, wind draft, single water drops, ghosts, dogs that are 1/4 mile away... After a while of seeing brake lights on without reason, you get desensitized and can easily ignore the next "real" brake lights...

Peoples who brake when merging into traffic.

Peoples who make complete stop on yeld signs (By the way, the yellow triangle is gone since a long while. It's now the international white triangle with a red border.)

Peoples who turn on a 4 lane road and use 2 lanes to do so, like they're driving an 18 wheeler, even if they only drive a tiny Yaris. HEY! There's room for me to turn left while you turn right, even if I'm facing you! YES, I'm allowed to turn at the same time as you. There are 2 lanes and, as long as we both stay in our lane, that's perfectly safe and legal!

When you are trying to turn left, peoples who insist in blocking you when the traffic in their lane is barely moving. Why act that way? They're not gaining anything by blocking and not loosing anything by yelding the way.

In the same idea, when the light is green on your side but it's visible your car won't go tru the intersection completely before it turns back red, why squeeze yourself in and block traffic? Wait at the stop line till you fit across the intersection!

I know Montréal is different than anywhere else in Canada but, when I put my flasher, it's not to signal the car who's slightly behind, on my side, that he should accelerate to block me, it's because I want to change lane...

I stand corrected on the yield sign. \

As far as stopping when you merge, can you believe that in some states of the U.S., they actually have stop signs on the entrance to the highway. Are they nuts?

Now how about the guy that starts changing lane, because he is thinking about doing it, and then half way through it, he remembers he should may be look if someone is there. He sees you swerves back in his lane and then puts on his flasher.

My list:

1- people who drive in between two lanes... not knowing where to stand...
2- people who brake at an intersection, in case the green light is going to suddenly change to red without warning:eek:
3- people who stay in the left lane because they after all are going at the maximum allowed speed, so why should you want to pass them??
4- people who drive talking on cell phones and brake all the time, swerve from right ot left to right ...
5- pedestrians who cross an intersection like Maisonneuve and St-Denis against their light and expect you to stop suddently, since they have priority, right??

I've seen places in California where they actually have traffic lights on the entrance lanes! Not just at the intersection where the entrence lane cross the city street but between the highway and the merging lane! They are used to regulate traffic entering the highways, only during rush hours, and it actually work! They leave 1-2 cars on every 10-20 seconds, computer-controlled with how many cars exit at following exits. But they do have real acceleration lanes, not just one hundred feets and you're in.

California drivers are the opposite of Montréal: patients, courteous, not cutting peoples, not following too close... You can actually drive a few miles in very heavy traffic, at 5-6 mph, without braking, and nobody will try to squeeze-in in front of you! Lots more traffic but way less stressful!

European country do have more stringent requirements.

My nephew (France) had to come back for a third is a charm time. Once he failed because he stalled the engine as he was pulling out with the examiner (standard stick shift). A second time because the examiner told him to turn right and he did, it was a one way street. Plus you have to drive way longer than the around the block joke in Canada.

But stiffer examination procedures are not the only answer. People need to be taught how to drive. One example:
How many people don't know how to control a car when it is sliding on the snow or rain? The first thing I will do with my kids when they can drive is to take them to an empty parking lot in the winter and make them practise skidding and the way to control it.

LBT,

I agree with you 100% except the part when merging onto the highway.
You should be travelling faster the vehicule on the lane you are merging onto. If you travel at the same speed you will hit the vehicule, if you travel slower you will slow down the lane.

PS..... One of the biggest problems with our highway is the entering and
exiting from the left lane........... what a nightmare......... it seems everytime I'm frustrated with the driver next to me, he is wearing a hat or cap.

I've noticed that Montreal drivers are pretty aggressive, which is why I tend to avoid driving in Montreal.

In my state, people drive slow, stupid, and dumb. It's just as annoying, maybe even more so.
