Marijuana and Beggars

Hey guys, I really noticed the smell of marijuana on the streets of Montreal. I walked many kilometres during my 5 nights there and that was a common aroma. People are freely blazin' on the streets. Is it legalized in Quebec or not enforced or something?

Also, the beggars are quite aggressive. One girl said something in French and started following me. I said "no francais" then she started begging in English and was still following me. She finally gave up. One guy asked to borrow my cell phone to make a call, I said no, then he followed me for about 2 blocks. Life in the big city I guess.

There's this store called Weedstock near La Capoterie. Um ... wonder what they sell?

As for the bums, all the time. Actually gave $ to this girl once, because she was kinda cute. Learned to ignore them from now on.

They should really just Leagalize it.

Honestly. I mean I don't understand the reason it shouldn't be legal.

People should be allowed to do what they want.

I hate beggars but I recently gave $20 to a cute goth girl because she was cute. She didn't ask for the money, I just handed it to her. The happiness on her face was well worth it and more.

Marijuana: it is tolerated for the smoking part... even small dealers. Waste of time and money to run after them... the "War on Drugs" is such hypocrisy anyway...

Beggars: Young ones can be quite persistent, which is perceived as agressive. I usually never give them money. Prefer to give them food directly. Actually, once gave some oranges in winter to a young "squeegy" and he looked at me very unhappy... Funny, 'cause he was asking for money for food! Oh welll...

If one wanted to avoid places in Montreal where one could easily buy some grass, what would be the top 4 or 5 places to avoid?

;)

Nice ... very nice... Just walk around some places downtown, you'll learn to avoid them pretty fast! Or as the commercial used ot say: Follow your nose! :p

To discover the only reason that pot is not already "legalized" in Canada all you have to do is look DOWN... Down at that massive piece of land right below, called the USA... Number one trading partner, our brothers, tightest of tight allies -- and tightest of tight asses when it comes to liberal policy making... If Canada bordered mexico instead of america, pot would have already been legal for years... You can thank the US conservative right, and the alcohol and prescription drug lobbies for keeping the status quo exactly how it right now. At least Canada does not waste billions/year on a useless war on drugs to put 18 year-olds in jail for smoking a joint. Here's something to ponder... As a ratio of the total population (so as not to skew the numbers) -- How many canadians have died from smoking pot? How many americans have died from lack of health care? How many americans have died in Iraq? How many Americans and Canadians have died from prescription drug related causes or from alcohol related causes? Clearly pot should remain illegal since it's SO dangerous... NOT :)

Montreal
just the other day...

Just the other day I was crossing a street on st. catherine and I see a couple holding up a cardboard with the usual please give me money routine on it. as I walked closer they looked at some student and he flipped the
cardboard around and it said WEED PLEASE!!! The student walked on but I thought it was unusual. Then about twenty minutes later I saw a crazy hippie doing the same thing on some`other street corner. I guess they make more $$$ off getting weed donations and selling it after. It makes sense since people dont give 5$ bills to beggars but some stoner is always willing to share weed with another stoner.

Apparently, charity comes with strings in some cases. I generally give out money to people who ask for it because I can afford it. I do so without a cautionary note about not spending it all in one place, or 'wasting' it on pot or booze or whatever gets them through these cold, cold nights. None of my business.

Remember Ryan Larkin and show a little respect to those less fortunate than ourselves. You never know who you are talking to.

They are getting bolder.

McDonald's on St. Catharine:

This beggar goes around to all the tables asking for money. After his last rejection, he announces to the restaurant that "he'll be back" and he's going to "keep asking." The McDonald's employees did nothing.

Wendy's/Timmies near the Wal-Mart:

This little old lady goes around to all the tables and asks for donations, saying her son has cancer.
