Thread: When does the holiday season end for you?

  1. #1

When does the holiday season end for you?

When do "the holidays" end for you?

I tend to think that they are all over except for the credit card bill by Jan. 2.

I'm still hearing lots of seasonal good wishes, which is nice, but also heard Christmas music in a store today

For some it is when the kids go back to school - still a few days away.

For others, it is when that last bit of Christmas baking is no more.

I know some people who leave all of their decorations up and outdoor lights on until the end of January, which seems a little long to me. On the other hand, a large outdoor Christmas tree nearby didn't have its lights on for New Years' Eve.

Of course, depending on your culture the holidays aren't just about Dec. 25th and Jan. 1st.

Big business seems to corral us into a earlier and earlier start to the shopping orgy every year, but at least we can come down from it all without too much of their manipulation.

It never began! IMHO, the holidays, R&R, is whenever you make it.

If it's about good wishes, that should happen all year 'round!

Are you saying that you only have good wishes in December? The "holiday season" is simply commercialism!

But commercialism is fine. And love for your fellow man is even better.

And both should happen any time, whether it's July or December.

And none of this requires decorations.

I agree good wishes should happen all year 'round. They must be sincere though! I just hate when someone is required to say it.

Now, the point about 'love your fellow man', we're on an escort review site, so don't you think we could include women too? (and as many as possible!).
Just kidding, and you are right on this point.

As for the celebration happening in July or Dec., just remember that the earlier ceremonies (before Coca-Cola invented "Santa Claus") were celebrations of lights in the darkest time of year. So I respectfully say "December is better".

    Happy New Year.

It is not about wishes, sweety!

Sorry the question is not about good wishes!

    The question is this:

When do "the holidays" end for you?To me is when i have to get my act together by
getting into my texts books, after jan 06!

When Wittgenstein meets Haroldo de Campos

When does an "event" - a span of time than we can describe as "holydays" - begins and when does it ends? Does the fact [Tatsache] that this question can be raised means that it's already gone. Holydays spirit could be still there but we cannot locate it spatially...hollowdays.

    Hollowdays
    Oh! low days
    Wholly days
    Holly days
    Oily days
    Oily dices
Only dices that were thrown by Mallarmé...

    End of holidays

When the $$$ runs out and you can’t afford to go to MTL the holiday ends. For now I see plenty of MTL trips in my future. Unfortunately I’m on a forced hiatus until my new passport gets here.

    The mood

It depends on your feelings and for me it varies from year to year. Usually, it's when I return to work (Jan. 7 this year) but I remember some years when it was after the last party, or even just after Xmas. Last year, there wasn't even holidays for me.
