Has anyone been to Cuba? I am going soon and would like to have some suggestions as to what I can expect. I need to know about what goes on with the cigars as well as the girls in Habana.
Where is the best place to see and what is the best place to stay at? I expect ot be bringing back my full alotment of cigars, can anyone tell me what is the best brand to buy for a non smoker. I would like to have an mild aromatic cigar that will not kill me. I am also interested in the Cuban rum, is it worth bringing back?.....................................I know that some of you might think that a former american president going to Cuba to pick up cigars is un-american, don't think of it as buying their products, think of it as burning their crops!!!

If you are American, you can't bring back any cigars in the US.

The top Cuban cigars would be Cohiba Robusto and the Montecristo no2.

You must buy them from Casa Habana stores. They are official distributors a bit like our liquor stores in Quebec. Don't buy them on the beach. Maybe by the unit at the hotel if you are stuck. These cigars cost about 5 to 10 times the price in Quebec.

I'm heading to Havana next month for a week and would appreciate any information on women & hobbying in Cuba. Everyone tells me the Cuban chicas are HOT.

I'll be staying at a hotel in Old Havana, supposed to be a nice place, will I be able to bring girls up to my room?

What are the best places to pick up women?

Any replies are apprieciated, PM me if need be.

Thanks!

Getting girls into tourist hotels used to be forbidden, but apparantly the law changed last year(though I cannot confirm that this has been implemented).

Cuban girls cannot afford to go to the western bars there (visited about a dozen and saw next to no single girls in them - only those whose BFs took them) so the best place to pick up girls is on the street, in shops or anywhere you are likely to talk to them for any reason.

The chicas are very freindly, - they love western men- and if you are ready to wine and dine for two nights, you'll usually get lucky on the second.

As for SPs, there are street hustlers (male, but not prostitutes) who hustle foreigners all the time. For $1 (no kidding) most will be able to take you to the latest SP haunts, though you may have to try two or three to find good ones.

As for where to take them, you can get a casa privado private room, in many apratments for about $20 per night. Once again, just ask one of the hustlers and he will show you several.

One tip, absolutely card the girls. They will not be offended. You have to do it to protect yourself.

Getting caught with an underage SP (under 18) is a big deal there and they love to make an example of the occasional foreigner.

If you can, become friends with your hotel staff and get them to take you to a local place. A place where the locals go.

I was propositioned in a local bar whilst minding my own business. Unfortunately, the lady I was with at the time made it quite clear to her that I was "not interested."

Also, although it is "forbidden", the staff at resort hotels will also be very "friendly" with you. They're either after cash or interested in a potential opportunity out. Either way, the staff hired at the resort hotels are usually pretty hot. Try to get a resort hotel that has their own bar/nightclub/dance floor. Guaranteed at some point the resort staff are going to ask you to dance at some point. It could be they are hired to dance with you to keep you entertained. Where it goes after the dance starts is entirely up to you and the chemistry you might have with your dance partner.

When I was in Cuba, on a tour bus returning to Varadero from Havana, we saw young girls hitch-hiking along the highway. Someone asked the tour guide if that was safe. She (the tour guide) answered, "Very safe, yes. Raping of a minor is a Capital offense." Don't know if that's true or not but she said it so matter-of-factly that I took her serious.

So, having consentual sex with a minor is still "statutory" rape. I doubt it has the same punishment as "regular" rape but when bensonnabalia says that it's a bid deal there, do not take him lightly.

That would be because it wasn't a law. It was a policy. And you could always bribe security guards to look the other way. I've stayed in the top hotels in Havana, and have never had a problem having a girl stay overnight. The policy is still in place, more or less.

Jinateros (male hustlers) are pretty rare these days in Havana, and have been for a few years. Jinateras (women hustlers, IOW hookers) are hard to find too. The last time I was there, Disco Johnny, the 1819 and Casa del musica in the Biblioteca Nacional were all dead or closed.

The term is casa particular. By the way, you can find easily them there, or online. Some of them are very nice (make sure it has air con, and make sure it works and is quiet before you pay a dime), and if you can get an inexpensive charter flight to Havana, are a cheaper alternative to chain hotels.

Interesting. I've never heard of that happening. Ever. I have heard of arrests for pedophiliac activity with children, but never cops busting a gringo for being with someone slightly underage.

All in all Cuba isn't what it used to be, although in light of the recession, well, old habits die hard.

I forgot to mention two restaurants you should go to - el eljibe in Miramar, and theres the one on the second floor right across from el capitolio in viejo, I forget the name, but ask around. There's also a great paladar (private restaurant) on the east side of the bay, it has a woman's name, near the fort where they do 'el boom' nightly at sunset. Ask the concierge at your hotel, you will need reservations. There's also a ton of great places to eat in Chinatown. and, of course, the Partagas cigar factory also right near the capital is the best place in the world to buy cigars.

Great post. Tks. for the precisions.

Couple of points:

Bribing the doorman in upscale hotels: yes, true, it can be done. Bribing is a way of life in Cuba. But I have found that the bribes costed more than renting a Casa Particular. More important though, I never advise anyone bribing in a country that you are not familiar with. I won't go into too much detail, but you can get unpleasant surprises.

As for carding girls, no fooling, be very careful about this. Insist upon it. You may not have heard stories, but I can assure you they exist.

As for Jiniteros being less frequent these days, I'll defer to you on that as with your comments thoroughout this thread. My experience in Cuba is somewhat dated and I only initially posted, because on one else did.

True. the way to handle this is to ask if you can bring a girl to your hotel. have her sit at the bar, and approach the security guy. negotiate, hard. It is always cheaper to rent a CP, but more comfortable all-around in the hotel. Also depending upon the hotel, she can stay all night. I had one girl leave at 4 a.m. once and she was stopped by the cops, who, seeing a young hottie leaving a luxury hotel at that time knew what she had been up to, and helped determine where her all her liquid funds would go, namely, the Cuban City Police drinking fund Taxi drivers can also demand higher fees when they take girls home from hotels). She got off easy, sometimes they just haul their ass to jail.

Of course, girls popping out of a CP are less likely to get harassed like that, but it is always best not to be wandering around the street at that hour.

why not giving your money to montreal city...you have soooo many poor people here....that deserve it...so give the money to your coountry first.....that is my opinion.....return now to the subject

Varadero is a lame resort town for white people. The place to find girls is on the south coast, and yes, havana as well, just not in the tourist discos. Or at least, that was five months ago when I was there. Things have no doubt changed.
