I think Bono was at the party that night also. I read an interview with gorgeous singer "Ima" (real name is Marie-Andree Bergeron) in a french tabloid last summer & she talked about being there that evening & being approached & quizzed by Bono. She also remembered going for a walk & bumping into an older man who seemed intrigued by Laliberte's garden. When she asked him who he was, he simply told her "oh, i'm just a guitar player." A few years later, she realized she had spoken with none other than George Harrison. For those who've never heard of "Ima", here she is:

Yeah, the Wilco/Bragg Guthriefests were great. As for Elvis C., I've never forgiven him for dissing Ray Charles in 79. I admit, though, that Allen Toussaint works magic with anyone.

Personally, I've never forgiven Ray Charles for giving a 45 minute concert about 20 years ago. I don't recall what I paid, but I do remember that the tickets were as pricey as any I'd ever purchased.

Costello was talking with Bonnie Bramlett (and probably some other people but I don't remember who) late one night in 79 and the subject of RC came up. Costello sneered, "Ray Charles? He's just a blind ignorant #$@%&*" Bonnie Bramlett discussed the incident in the press (again, I don't remember the details but I think it was in Rolling Stone) and was enraged at the racism and utter lack of respect.
