LCN report today that Quebec Government is studying the possibility to issued work permits to all nude dancers

http://lcn.canoe.ca/national/

I wonder if this is this a step towards legalizing sex trade
message parlours ,escorts service and etc.....

However I think its a good idea cause it will some how keep the minor out of the topless clubs:D

It's a ploy to catch all the girls that are dancing and collecting welfare too, not to mention collecting income tax from them.

they already do that in ontario. all dancers are required to have a license. there are a number of reasons for this: 1.it is simply a way for the government to make some money 2.another thing is to keep underage dancers out of the trade 3.and finally it is a way to prevent dancers to collect welfare and collecting income from dancing at the same time.

Licensing is required in most, but not all, Ontario cities.

I am absolutely sure that licensing is not required in Mississauga.

I think it is also not required in Brampton.

I know the exotic dancer license was taken to court and was deemed unconstitutional. So as far as I know, in certain jursidictions in Ontario, or province wide it is gone and these dancers are hopefully getting their money back. This is the only article I could find. Hopefully it is allowed to copy and paste this.

A Windsor bylaw requiring exotic dancers to pay a special licence fee is "discriminatory" and "excessive," the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled Tuesday. lawyer Myron Shulgan, who represented seven Windsor strip clubs, said the court struck down the bylaw because it treats employees in the same job class differently, based on attire. "A female bartender who is partially nude is required to be licensed, but a female bartender working alongside the former who's fully clothed is not required to be licensed," Shulgan said. "The court said that that discriminates between the two employees of the same class." The decision echoes one made by the Superior Court in September, which the city had appealed. Adult entertainment club employees who worked in the nude or partially nude - and were classified as "dancers" by the city - were required to buy a licence at a cost of $466 annually once the bylaw took effect Jan. 1, 2005. Barry Maroon, manager of Leopard's Lounge, said the licensing fee imposed imposed a high cost on the club, which paid for the fees on the dancers' behalf. "The amount of the licensing fees to these girls and the fact that they got singled out, it just seems unfair," Maroon said. Adult entertainment parlours are also required to buy a business licence and ensure their managers are licensed. Most of the fee charged to the dancers - $298 of the $466 - helped to cover the cost of policing in the downtown area in violation of the Municipal Act, Judge E.E. Gillese wrote in the ruling. "The cost of maintaining a police presence in the downtown core is not a cost 'directly related to the administration and enforcement of the bylaw,'" Gillese ruled. "So, it is not recoverable by way of licensing fees."

I am not a lawyer, but based on my understanding the court ruling applies to the Windsor bylaw only.

actually you are absolutely right. my inaccurate choice of words in my previous post. yea i know brampton does not require a license and a number of towns in northern ontario do not require licenses. that is the main reason the trinity clubs can have a number of girls from quebec working there.

cha-ching... you hit the nail on the head.

The gov't wants their cut of the pie under the guise doing it to help exclude minors, illegal workers, etc -- but in the end it's really just a cash grab like everything else.

I don't see them issuing licenses to cleaning ladies?

Just because a girl has a license to dance does not mean she is actively dancing. It can't be used as a reason to prevent a person from receiving welfare benefits or to collect income taxes.

I pesronnaly worked at the Leopard' s Loundge 8 years ago in Windsor ontario, Barry the owner paid for the licence at first and took the amount out of the payroll. Yes we were paid to dance not a lot a day but still .A year licence it was , got it at city hall. In quebec there is no payroll, in club we have a 20 to 100 $ in bar service to pay at the begennig of each shift if we do double can go up to 160$ per day. Maybe not the licence because there will be some problemes with fs clubs because alot of girls got some problemes with prostitution ( got cut) or drugs, dont know a lot of angels, with no offences .
Anyways, on my side , I try to convince some of them to pay their taxes. This is what I do!Declare under 30000$ a year and the government is happy . No problem with credit at the bank , so I can get what ever I want. I even keep the receips for my clothes , gas, motel , I declare myself dancer simply.
Never been on wellfair ! So we are not all the same

I hope this doesn't pass!

These days dancers have a hard enough time what with half empty (or all empty!) clubs and Montreal is a city that doesn't do the tip rail thing that a lot of US clubs do.
