Wouldn't you say that the mad rush of events in the last 6,000 years starring the human race has been action packed? Everything from Mesopotamia, through the Roman Empire, through the Enlightenment to the Twin Towers, with a cast of billions--emperors, slaves, saviours, kinds, queens, armies, navies, conquest, murder, famine, art, science, revolution, comedy, tragedy, genocide, and Michael Jackson.

The question is: What next?

I'm hoping it will be more like the Jetsons than Blade Runner. :)
What energy will you use, and how will you acquire it, to power the flying cars?

Noble? Are you sure?

Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa's grandson Gaius is more commonly known as Emperor Caligula, and his great-grandson Luciusas, Emperor Nero. :p

So what you in effect are saying is that in 100 years you will no longer be known as a nice guy if you sow bad seeds along the way. Seems strange that the sins of the sons should be the sins of the father.

Nero ? Wasn't he the guy in "Fiddler on the Roof" ? :p

I'm well aware of my logical fallacy. I was attempting to 'decline' the compliment in a manly way. ;)

The Doomalists will take over the world and humankind will commit collective suicide, ravaged by fear of apocalyptic scenarios which probably would never have happened. :p

Planet Earth is run by sell-outs and perverts who serve the central bankers' plan to hijack humanity for their own bizarre, greedy and occult ends. They use the mass media and education to manipulate, distort and degrade us.

How do you know were're not all just dreaming this current world from inside our cocoon like pods, deep below the ground, while our life-force is sucked dry in order to power the sinister alien war that is taking place above us -- like in the Matrix :)

Assuming everything is real, teleportation would be great. I would even settle for some genius figuring out how to get people on and off airplanes using ALL 8 doors, instead of just one.

Also, how did the chinese build a wall that can last thousands and thousands of years, but in Montreal a newly paved street doesn't last five years... maybe the scientist who are trying to teleport laser beams could spend a couple weekends working on that one.

It would be great if we could all have flying cars, but I would want a Japanese one... I can just imagine my US-clunker seizing up when I'm 500 feet off the ground. That would suck. I would ask the on-star lady for the coordinates of the nearest cemetary, so that I could just aim for it. I wonder what the on-star lady would say... She would probably be an automated computer voice by then and would just repeat back something like "You said "the nearest Ben and Jerry -- is that correct?"

just spouting nonsense today... ignore this post.

No, actually the capitalists have already taken over the world. And destroyed most of it.

You're a fool if you plan to claim that the climate isn't changing, that peak oil is something to scoff at, that antibiotics aren't losing their efficacy.

I would assume nuclear.
Fusion or fission?

We are not even close to being able to harness the energy released by fusion. So it won't be an option for quite a while. The viability of fission, on the other hand, is limited to the amount of Uranium that is out there. Assuming that the couple billion of people still living in rural China and India will forego the benefits of lightbulbs, heating, hot water... which is a big assumption... then we would only have about a century's worth of Uranium to cover our current needs. Plutonium would be the next nuclear fuel to use, but if I understand correctly, it is far more radioactive and difficult to handle than Uranium.

I'm convinced, obviously we're doomed. Off to buy pre-funeral arrangements. :)

Well this would be true for any ressource.

Assuming that the couple billion of people still living in rural China and India will forego the benefits of lightbulbs, heating, hot water... which is a big assumption... then we would only have about a century's worth of Uranium to cover our current needs.

Assuming we've already found all the mineable uranium deposits worldwide? Uranium isn't scarce. You might even have some in your backyard. But in order to mine it, uranium must be found in large concentrations. And only a small number of these concentrated deposits have been discovered worldwide. The keywords here being "have been discovered". Currently, there are 440 nuclear reactors in operation worldwide. This number will have doubled by 2050. I doubt very much that plans for the construction of all these new reactors would have been drawn up if experts thought that we would run out of uranium in 100 years. Production however will have a hard time keeping up with demand and it woudn't be surprising to see U308 prices reach $1,000 a pound by 2012 or 2015. Which is why of course, especially since the last correction brought most U stocks close to their 52 week lows, it's not a bad idea to invest in uranium stocks, especially as a long term investment. See, I'm investing in clean energy and making money.
