Thread: Habs Versus Flyers

    Habs Versus Flyers

OK fellow hockey fans... WHO AM I

I'm a hockey fan from Philly who has season tickets to both the Flyers and the Senators... and yes the SENS came up lame both figurativly and litterally but that is a different topic... I bought SENS tickets last season when it was obvious the FLYERS weren't making any post season games because I didn't want to go through hockey withdraw in April...and the Canadian's have a wait list...

so I thought I'd give you fine hockey fans from Montreal a chance to vent through what appears to be (based on game one), a tough second round matchup between two very good teams...

Game two Saturday may prove or disprove that.

Although I disagree with what you say about game one, ANY series in the playoffs are going to be tough. Montrealers thought that we would role over Boston in 4 or 5, when we should only have won 2 out of the 7 games (first and last). The other ones were thanks to Carey Price.

So even if we did beat Philly 7 times in a row, we can't think this is a done deal... Just look at the way they played last night after having played Monday and Tuesday. Any other team would have been dead by the 3rd period!

a lot of strange bounces in game one for both teams...they tend to even out in a long series... I was expecting the Flyers to be dead last night and had Montreal not hit the post twice in the first period they might have been. It was dissappointing (for me) to see them give it up with 29 seconds left and the HABS net empty... all they need was one more clear... giving up two goal leads is becoming a habit for the Flyers as they did it twice in the Washington series.

    ON ANOTHER NOTE:
I do hate these new composite sticks...does the flex really give you THAT much... CARTER breaks his stick on the crucial face off... a Canadian breaks his stick on a slap slot from the top of the face of circle...

Flyers 4 Habs 2 series even at 1-1

Series now even at one as the FLYERS manage to hold on to a two goal lead this time and now take over home ice advantage.

HABS are having a difficult time scoring 5 on 5.

See you in Philly on Monday night...

Kudos to Biron, he stole that game. It might also help if the Habs stopped giving them a 2 goal lead at the beginning of games... Otherwise, Habs in 6, they are clearly the better team.

I don't know about that...FLYERS outplayed the HABS in game one and should have taken that one... you won't get the matchups you want in games 3 and 4. We'll see...but I think it's FLYERS in 6.

Would you like some cheese with your whine? ...

It certainly didn't take long after last night's game finished for arrogant Flyer fans to start chirping - and I wouldn't be gloating over last night's win, it's going to be a long series.

No whining hear Mr GHG...I was simply pointing out that while the FLYERS were outplayed on the ice last night and won...they had outplayed Montreal in game one a gave it away with 29 seconds left...GOALTENDING IS PART OF HOCKEY...I've watched FLYER goaltenders give away games dominated by the FLYERS for years. It was why Holmgren trade a second round pick for BIRON.

I think what you are seeing is a FLYERS team that gets up two goals and then just tries to play way too conservative while the HABS are forced to sustain pressure to get back into it. I've lost count of the number of games over the years in which the FLYERS have dominated shots and chances and have been stoned by Marty Broduere...Price is young and the FLYERS appear to have found a chink in his armor. Biron has certainly been the best player on the FLYERS in the first two games.

Fortunately, the FLYERS have not allowed Montreal to get a lead in either game (until the last shot in OT) and so they've forced Montreal to press, which has created odd-man rushes for them. The FLYERS need to reduce their cross ice turnovers coming out of their own zone...that almost killed them again last night.

During the regular season the FLYERS were 30-1-1 when leading by two goals, in the playoffs they are now 3-3. That is very disturbing to me but this time BIRON didn't let it get away. I expect the FLYERS to get better as this series goes on. Knuble is skating again and is expected back in the line-up before the end of the series maybe as soon as tomorrow night. He's now listed as day to day.

You on the other hand seem to have a bit of trouble being civil in your posts, choosing to rip or trash rather than discuss. You comments about the FLYER orginization as a point... and NO FREE AGENTS want to come to the FLYERS, but I hear the entire Centre Bell booing DANNY BRIERE for choosing to sign with the Flyers instead of his home town Montreal Canadians... I think you were off base with that one. They also signed Hartnell and Timonen who would have been UFA but chose instead to sign with the FLYERS prior to July 1 last year. They both could have waited but didn't want to.

HGH - To me you just seem very childish...but if you'd like to change that and discuss things like an adult...please do.

Montreal meltdown in period 2. Do you take Price out to start the 3rd, he's been nothing but very average the whole series so far?
Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction) English, motherfu*ker, do you speak it?

Typical Yankee fan in the Merb Sports Section!! Bwwaahh.

No one should blame Price! All what I can say is that, Flyers are lucky. How can the Flyers celebrate with this performance? Lucky, just lucky. Three posts in the first period alone. Luck plays a big part in our life. How about Hockey?

    Choke...(cough...) choke

...is what is going in with our beloved habs. Price, as young as he is, cannot carry the team. Bravo for pulling the plug and letting Halak play the third. If I was the coach, I would pen him as a starter in game 4. As for the others, they played like wusses, the bigger Flyers terrifying a bunch of, yes , quick europeans, but completely gutless; Streit, Andrei Kostitsy, Plekanec, Markov and especially Kovalev, what a brutal outing. Latendresse should not be dressed for the remainder of the series, as he is too slow. Bring in Greg Stewart, he impressed me with his chutzpah in his only NHL presence. O'Byrne is too slow. Bring Dandenault back on D or dress Valentenko.
All this might be just too late though...I predict the Flyers will beat the Canadiens, 4-1 on Wensday, the Canadiens will beat them in game 5 (3-2), but will get thrashed, 7-3 in game 6 (like 8-2 in Carolina a few years ago).

    Go Flyers GO!!

Flyers are a bunch of wussies who deserved to be shot, from Richards to hatcher to Downie, etc. Seriously, all executed with a chainsaw to the throat. I'm not from MTL, I'm not even a huge Habs fan but enough is enough. These retards with their dirty hits and cheap shots! Sucker punch a goalie in the head? Give me a break, I wouldve gone after Richards' throat right then and there. Besides, Philly is a nasty good for nothing city. Cheesestakes and a Rocky statue?? Oooooo

Go Habs Go. We'll beat the Flyers in 7.
Do not blame it on Carey! We'll live or die with Price.

It was the FLYERS hitting the posts in the Washington series...goaltenders will tell you that it's becasue they had the angles right...

The HABS are having a difficult time scoreing 5 on 5...
