I saw someting disgusting today. The guy making the burgers at Burger King grabbed a handfull of lettuce and squeezed out the water, then he place the lettuce in a burger. I do not know how they get away with not wearing plastic gloves. My opinion is that Burger King is the most unhygenic of all the fast food chains in Montreal. What is you pickl for dirty food joint?

Slightly unrelated to the main topic but i once knew a gay person who kept getting hassled by the drunk rednecks whenever they entered the restaurant he worked at. One night he had enough & after they ordered pizza, he figured he'd get even. So just prior to putting their all-dressed pizza in the oven, he jerked off on it. Once the pizza was ready 15 minutes later, he gladly volunteered to bring them the pizza & deposited on their table with a huge smile on his face. As he walked back towards the kitchen, he told me that inside his head he was telling them: "Here's your all-dressed pizza, you motherfuckers! I hope you enjoy eating it as much as i enjoyed making it!"

True story.

In my younger years i worked in a job where i seen many kitchens in many of the local restaurants. There were some of the kitchens that were so disgusting that i would never go back there and eat ever again after seeing them.

There are many restaurants out there that if people could see who was preparing the food and the state of the kitchens you would never darken the door again. At times you are better off not knowing because you may get sick:)

Two things one does not want to see being made are sausages and law. I've seen both, sausage is more disgusting but you feel better about yourself afterwards.

I read a article in the Mirror one time where the restaurant inspector said the best way to tell if a place is clean is to look at the front doors for fingerprints on the windows, and the bathrooms.

Most disgusting fast food chains? All of them. In this city, why would anyone settle for fast food when you can get amazing food at non-chain restaurants?

Well, I was 16 when I started working at one the many subway restaurant ... Now, when I see they're commercial, subway eat fresh (in french they say prepare devant vous) because it can't get any more ridiculous than that.
I agree, your sandwich is prepared in front of you. WITH GLOVES .
But where do you think we actually prepare the food that we'll put in your sandwiches? In the back ... with no gloves on....
we cut the meat
we slice the cheeze
we talk on the phone
we smoke a cigarette
in the back ... with no gloves on ...
I never eat at any subway restaurant, no matter how starving I am...

I think people are being pussies about their food. Sure, you used your hands. So what? Food itself has enough bacteria to kill you if it isn't prepared properly. You should be washing your hands not because your hands will infect the food, but the other way around.

Did you know there are government guidelines for how many insect bits and rat turds are allowable in a pound of flour (it is impossible to have grain without insects and rats and mice)? Where do you think those things go? Tell you what, go make yourself a slice of toast, and think about it.

Peoples today going bezerk about germs and all are causing more dammage than they can think: antibiotics, Purell, air freshners, disinfectants... All efficient to 99% because it's impossible to kill all the bad stuff. What's left? The stronger bugs who in turn, multiply and give birth to more resistant strains while for us human, being exposed to less and less germs, we loose our resistance and becomes more sensitive to the remaining bugs or to an old one we've never encountered before.

From somebody I know who is a food inspector, it is true the washrooms are a good sign of the cleanliness of a restaurant. Usually, if they don't even care cleaning the washrooms, they won't care about the kitchen either. I didn't know about the finger prints on the front door windows but it stand to the same thinking!

As far as I know, there's no laws requiring to wear gloves when handling food in Québec. The only things are peoples handling food must wear a "hair cover", if they have any open wound on their hands, it must be covered and, hand-washing stations must be avaliable. What good is gloves when the guy is doing everything including manipulating cash while wearing them?

What's important is the person who is manipulating food should wash his hands if he change working station from, let's say handling food and handling money. Same goes with cleaning the workspace and preparing food or handling raw meat and switching to ready-to-serve food.

KFC. Funny how there's never any Seagulls around THEIR dumpsters.

Seriously, La Belle Province, or Lafleurs. I regularly see them handle a raw hamburger patty, and then go get a hot dog ready. No gloves. Hello e-coli. Hasn't stopped me though. I guess cayenne pepper kills bacteria.

The McDonald's near Super Sexe on St. Catherine is about as ghetto as it gets. They allow bums to open the doors, wipe the trays that we eat on, harass the female customers to the point where they hid behind me, bud in line for free coffee, and they make us all wait while some gang bangers jump in line ahead of about 10 of us waiting in line. Lets just say I let the manager have a piece of my mind. Oh yeah, the front door smells like urine too. SUPER GHETTO! AVOID!

Greasy french fry places.

There is a greasy french fry place at the marche central that is disgusting.
I have seen people come out of the washrroms and start to make the smoked meat sandwiches.I have also seen people sneeze right into the fried in the fryer. Stay away if you value your health.

Metoo's point about the gloves is a good one. The gloves they wear, are basically pointless window dressing and an insult to our intelligence, at most places... People are not properly trained to use them and when to change them etc or they are just complete idiots. Not too long ago, I can't remember where, a kid wiped his nose with the back of the glove and then resumed making my sandwich. Right in front of me... Like it was totally normal... I told him he could go get a kleenex, wipe his nose, wash his hands, get new gloves, and replace the ingredient he just touched and then make me a new sandwich.

I know from experience that what so many others say is true, there is A LOT of disgusting shit all over the entire food industry. Most of us must be very resilient otherwise we would all be dead. We are eating a lot of "foreign" matter (mouse droppings, dead insects, hair, dirt, etc)....

It is better to avoid what's CLEARLY filthy and infested and try not to worry too much about the rest.

I am sure there are some pretty swank restraunts out there that are utter cesspits in the kitchens. Watch Kitchen Nightmares with Ramsay, or read the hotel restraunts bits from the paris section of from Down and Out in London and Paris by Orwell. I doubt things have changed much. Anytime the customer does not have information [like what goes on in the kitchen, dealing with mechanics etc], you get fucked in the ass, hard.

Those plastic gloves thing are a pure joke, they trap moisture and are a breeding ground for germs. Never mind your typical person ends up touching the outside of the gloves because they are near impossible to get on otherwise. I recall seeing studies saying it is much better to wash your hands then rely on gloves.

I'd toss the soup at his head, tell him to sod off in more impolite words and walk out.

Hu? What an impulsive guy! The story doesn't say what he did after! No reason to get mad at him in my opinion! There was nothing impolite in his reaction! It's not like he peed in the soup, that wasn't his fault. Basically, he acknowledged the problem with a hint of humor. To me, I would be insulted if he said "Excuse me sir but, I really doesn't see the problem..." Now that's an impolite response, even if the wording is very clean and "dry".

It's not because a situation is serious that you can't have a giggle about it!
