Wink Let's do a little math here - negative shilling

It seems, because i help out a few people with their websites, every time I post something even remotely critical of another escort, my motives are questioned.

Walk with me, let's logic this through, shall we?

Let's say it is true for the sake of argument: I slam other escorts with the intent of assisting those with whom I am associated.

First off, the slam would have to have a deleterious effect on the slammee, to the extent that a certain number of men would not book her. That is represented as 'X'.

Secondly, a rough estimate says there are perhaps 2,000 women working as sex service providers (massage, agency and indies) in this city at any time. Let us call that 'Y'.

Of those 2,000 women, I happen to assist with web presence for two of them. 0.1% of all working escorts.

Then there is their availability. A guess would be 20 hours per week.

So the assumption is, all things being equal, that were i to slam an escort, let's say 5 men would not book her, but take their choice from among the remaining 2000 other women who provide sex services, of which I am associated with 0.1%, and who have a constraint on their time.

X x 5 / Y=.1. As best as I can figure it, that would be a .02% increase in revenues. At $250/hour tht works out to less than half a cent.

Please correct my math or logic if incorrect.

Oh, I should mention since I have no dog in this fight, no personal gain at all to make, doing what it has been insinuated and stated outright that I do makes even less sense than doing so given the above. Perhaps this quote helps to clarify why this is happening "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are".

    ok..here goes,,

Lets say we are talking about merb visitors..around say 10,000 per day. Think its more but just to make things simple..

so say they read your bad comments and decide not to book..say that number is 1%..so that means its 100 lost calls at say $180 a call it comes to $18,000.00 now lets say of that 1%, 1/2 would have repeated..so 50 x $180 is $9,000...so total is $27,000.00 ??

but lets say you keep your post up for a full year because it doesn't get deleted...so its now $27,000 x 365 days..so you just screwed some girls out of $9,855,000.00 ..yeah almost 10 million dollars..???

    silly you.. shame on you..

    Smile Mathematics vs Marketing

Without taking a position on the core part of the discussion I would like to point out basic flaws.

The mathematics in this thread is very iffy on both sides since it does not take into account two important elements.

Strategic positioning and the movement of dollars within the various SP niche areas.

I will try to illustrate with and example that should cause minimum controversy.

After a police raid at an SC a poster may imply that other raids are in the works. A general statement that may be interpreted as meaning anything from anywhere in the province down to a specific neighbourhood. A prudent patron of SCs may decide to shift his patronage to other niche providers such as massage, incalls or whatever is the second choice. Measuring the resulting movement of money away from SCs to these various niches is not possible since we do not know how many of the daily viewers have the SC niche as their priority.

If the seminal poster has a connection with one of the competing niches, there is a conflict of interest. Even though the amount of dollars that may actually filter to this individual is negligible the concept still applies.

Strategic positioning. When was the post in the example made. Well if it was made early in the day Monday there is an opportunity to mitigate matters with counter information etc BUT if it was made midday Thursday - payday and the start of the busy period for SCs then the opportunity to mitigate the situation is reduced.

    Hello all,

If the review is honest and the lady or agency did not serve well, then they deserve to lose business and it helps hobbyists. So let the chips fall where they may.

The irony here is too many complain about the numerous glowing reviews being of no help because all the ladies sound like goddesses, and the reviews go unchallenged. Yet, when a negative review giving more perspective appears, the review is often challenged, attacked, called a shill. You just can't make everyone happy. Too many people are looking for guarantees when there aren't any. In six years I have very rarely had any real issues with escorts. Maybe the problem is your behavior or you are just too demanding.

Answer: do the best you can and live with it if you can't be happy with reviews. Or, get to know a few frequent reviewers well and base your choice on them.

    Cheers,

This thread is NOT about reviews but about general information - how it is posted, by whom and how it impacts. A sub topic would be disclosure - the posters relationship to a niche and how it factors into the information posted.

YVO, the seminal poster revealed his link to two of the indies who he helps with websites. Once this is public board knowledge posters are welcome to factor it into the reliability equation for any other information he may post.
Yesterday he posted some information about another SPs website. Due to the aforementionned revealed relationship with competing escorts posters made assumptions which YVO cleared-up in a fashion that appears to be satisfactory based on the extremely low interest in questionning his explanation.

What I can't understnd is this: YVO came across a security issue which could have had serious, dangerous consequences for one of the providers here. He did something to try to get the provider to fix the issue, which would, of course, be only for her sake. While the methods he chose some might question, how the fuck can you question his motives? Geesus, he was trying to help. If his approach was flawed (and I am not one to judge), be polite, point out the flaw and why it is a flaw, but don't impute malicious motive.

    Hello ForbiddenMaster,

Unfortunately, impugning someone's motives seems to be and inevitable part of being on the boards, whether justified or not. I do understand in this case how some of YVOs methods were not as discrete as they might have been. But, that doesn't make him a villain. Some people really need to back off a bit and make allowances for honest intentions and simple human error instead of looking to the worst possibility first. Despite the indiscretion, nothing was exposed that wasn't publicly available in the first place...according to my current understanding of what happened. So people...take a breath, relax, and try to be a little more forgiving.

I don't agree with the mathematical results. There are a few problems with the analyses. A few problems are related to the assumptions (e.g., 2000 working girls which may include street walkers, and 10,000 visitors that may all call the agencies). I cannot get into details of mathematical problems, but a obvious problem is not looking at both sides. A good analysis has to look at lost revenue for the companies and benefits that a client receives from possiblity that the review is correct and client trusts the review.

It will be nice if you can modify your analyses and improve the model; and bring it as close to reality as possible.

    Hello SA,

If one negative poster could possibly have had this kind of effect on a lady or agency the escort business in Montreal would have been totally wiped out long ago. Your assessment is impossible since counter positive reviews can easily nullify any single negative poster, and the amount of credibility any single poster has or could have couldn't possibly have this kind of impact. No single poster has ever turned me away from calling for a lady unless he was a close, well-known, trusted friend.

    Silly,
