A Quebecois woman was denied French citizenship for a second time.

"I never thought of myself as Canadian. The word means nothing to me."

"As long as Quebec isn't independent, I don't have an identity. I am a Québécois, but that's not an official title."

...

(She) originally requested dual citizenship in 2006, but was turned down because rules then stipulated her family must have resided in France in the last 50 years.

However, a new law says anyone can claim French citizenship as long as they can prove they have ancestors who were born in France, explained Christian Néron, a Quebec City lawyer.

...

The email said consular officials would not comment on the subject except to say anyone who lost citizenship because of a treaty or the cessation of territory is not eligible to reclaim their citizenship.

...

the French consulate in Quebec City last month said anyone whose ancestors came to Quebec prior to the 1763 signing of the Treaty of Paris - in which New France was surrendered to the British - would not be eligible.

...

also said anyone whose ancestors came from France after the 1763 signing of the Treaty of Paris, in which Quebec was ceded to the British, could under certain circumstances regain their citizenship.

Why would a Quebecer want French citizenship ? That is what puzzles me. I thought the whole idea was sovereignty.

That would be an ignorant Quebecer. Yeah, we have some of those too ;)

PS. I'm Québécois. Proud of it.

But there's nothing I hate more than to hear a "Quebecer" praising France. Or wanting acceptance from France. We are not French. We haven't been for a very long time.

France abandoned Québec long ago for "Big sugar" profits. When I hear these little whinning idiots go on so proudly about our French "cousins" it really annoys me.

Fact is, most separatist Quebecers (diminishing in numbers happily) don't know what they want, as a group. Some want a country, some want sovereignty association, some want to be called a nation, etc...

I realy believe the whole separatist phenom is a federal govt idea that was thrown out there and flamed to keep the US out of our hair. If so, I'll ride that fine line and help fuel that strategy.

Hey ! I am in very good mood lately. Not !
So I thought creeping around the threads just to deblaterer my feelings for a while and this thread is a good one.

Let's try this !
I am 1st and foremost a Quebecois ! not a quebecer ! it's not the same.
Anyone who thinks a Quebecois is always complaining... I agree.
Because this is what I love most 'stir the sh*t out of our beloved federal gov.'
Thus complaining...

I love it as much as Hockey (and no I don't like fr*ken poutine or Celine Dion).
I am 2nd A Canadian (used to be called French-Canadian from anglos who felt I was a bad as* sh*t disturber back in high-school). And I am proud of it because I know how much Canadians (and Quebecois) worked hard and fought hard side by side back when life was a lot tougher than today.

Am I an english Canadian ? no. I am proud of being somtehing close to a frog or better yet 'An energizer bunny' that loves banging, DP, Gang Bangs, etc...

So would I vote for splitting Canada ?
No unless I am mad. Although it happens once in a while when some jack*ss* start the usual 'complaining' that Quebec is the same as any other province.

BS. There is only one place where turning right is 'allowed', 'not allowed', 'allowed in certain condition', etc... or all the above !!! OK ?
We do things differently here ! If we can f**k it up. We will !!!
We just love bringing up one of the best hockey team to see it go win the stanley cup somewhere else ! We love to have McCartney and stir some sh*t about it ! That's what we do !

As for USA ??? We love to complain about it even though I would love to have my own collection of guns. Specially right now !!!

But hey ! Mtrl is a good place to have fun !!! so why should I care if in some places I feel like I am in Italy ???

And if it were for me I would like Quebec to be called 'not a province, a nation, a country or all the above...' but a fr*ken village gaulois !!! YEAH !!!!

Why don't you spell favour like a Canadian. I take it you are American? Or have u just lost your identity?

Your first sentence is a question, yet it has no question mark.

Your second sentence is technically a statement, yet it does have a question mark.

We all make mistakes. I don't think this is the topic of the thread.

I agree with Daringly on this one. If you'd rather be a citizen of another country, then please pack your things and go there. I do think it's a little harsh to say that people complain "24 hours a day" --- we all know that many of the loudest complainers are actually sleeping (or passed out) for at least 12 hours a day, while the rest of us are actually working.

I've been to every province and they are all different, so for anyone to challenge that Québec is distinct suffers from Don Quixote syndrome.

There's no sufferin' man.

Unless you stay in the west island of Montreal or near the US Border, I challenge u to tell me what is so different between Nova Scotia and Alberta !!!

You clearly don't know what it is to be a Quebecois !!!

JH -- You are kidding right?

I could give you a laundry list of differences between the people of NS and AB, including but not limited to their heritage, their common histories, attitudes, lifestyles, etc etc etc. However, anyone here from either of those areas could probably do a much better job of it than me. This attitude that "we are different but everyone else in north america is the same" is sadly uninformed.

Heritage, comon history, lifestyles, attitudes ???
Even put the language in. Terre-neuve, Scots and Britishers talk so much differently that it's like going down under and yet...

I am talking living it all out !

Find me a place where they live a good life and still complains and wants to to split a country after being proud for 400years of living here ???

You go anywhere in Canada even in Alberta where suddenly they start to think they would be better off Canada's deficit to pay for... and find me someone who openly wants to split the country. Acadians ? Even New-foundlanders ? Maybe the Cree people ?!!! Not.

Come stay with me for 2 weeks Ben Dover. Follow my trail, with my dudes and girlfriends. Listen to what we listen on radio and watch on TV, come eat the way we do and 'complains' like we do... You'll see.

We blend it all here ! We take all the best in english and make it in some french that even french people don't understand sh*t. We complain against french, Italians, Jews, Americans, etc... and yet we love to eat their food, dress like them, party for F1 as well as Nascar, Hockey as well as Football (soccer) and American style also. Come in Montreal... blend right in and you'll see... then go outside the island. Deep in the regions ! you'll freak out !!!:p

You won't find this in going to Toronto then North Bay, Vancouver than Prince Rupert.

Don't you see ??? We just love to st*r sh*t !!!! :D :D

It's fun ! it's enoyable !!! we love to call on the queen, the pope, or our own prime minister to make fun of them over the radio and/or TV. We love to watch the same show on TV which nobody else in Canada knows anything about, while Canada is watching Candian Idol !!! :D :D :D

Osti que ca me fait plaisir d'entendre c'est commentaire.

Tu as raison, peu de Canadaien pren le temps de bien comprendre.

I bitch and scream and get into all of shit when it comes down to politics.
Born and raised in Montreal, I have lived in Europe , the West coast, the States, but I will never move from this province.

The Montreal Anglos stay in Quebec, because they love it, the Quebecois stay in Quebec because they love it.

So we chew shit around a pint.

Yeah the French in Quebec where pissed on in the 50 and 60 and part of the 70's , now that changed, The Quebec Anglos where pissed on, but hey that is changing too.

I have to say that in all of the Canadian provinces, Quebec is about the best around.

So when I hear comments like let all the Quebecois leave for France, thats pure bigotery and racial.

Can I tell of the times when I traveled to Ontario and the kind of bullshit I went through because I was from Quebec?? Or the bigotery I endured , yet I can speak 4 languages and this mostly from Ottawa..

Don't know but... I am very happy that we came very close in 1995 to split Canada.

Just to stir the sh*t out of the two sides (anglos vs. french) that still didn't get it. I just love to say 'shut the f**k off' to anyone tweet that doesn't want to see McCartney here because he's from england and the same to anyone who thinks that speaking only english is better.

I just love to see every english politician that starts speaking french in order to shoot for prime minister .. and hardcore french people that realize how we're far than just another french colony.

We're stuck with Bush and Harper on our TV ?
We send you Celine Dion avec du sirop d'erable ! Tiens toi !

You really want to know what is a Quebecois ?

Then start complaining. Be the underdog of this country et assume ton role !
Chiale apres tout en gardant ton cool. Apprends les langues des autres, leur bouffe, leur culture. Don't take anything for granted but give and take all the time. And complain ! This is latin blood ! like the french, Italians, Spanish, etc... Stay cool, and rationalize and stay focus. This part is americans, english, germans, blood. We ain't gonna make it if we think we can compete alone against the world.

While the world is ranting about islam... go try this morrocan food, find out about how Islam was once a big fr*ken empire and why. So many of our words comes from them. Why they seem to argue and fight all the time and yet be so gentil. It must be fun...:D

China... chinese seem so difficult... bah ! if we decode Ti-me ou les tetes a claques we can learn chinese. Different culture ? well blend it here ! I just love asian girls.

What's next ? India ? Imagine the world of new things to know about.
Used to be disgusted looking at their food...? sh*t now it's my favorite.
How stupid of me before not realizing how good it could be for my health.

Anyway ! I know I distrub sh*t here ! but it felt good.
I know I don't have la verité but.. it felt good.

Sorry if you take it de facon personnelle !
Even if I `ranted`to Ben Dover, Metoo4 and others... it was just for fun !
