From Yahoo:
The software giant's new ad starring Jerry Seinfeld has drawn largely negative reviews online, after premiering Thursday night during NBC's broadcast of the National Football League's season kickoff game.

The ad was the start of a highly anticipated US$300 million advertising campaign that Microsoft is launching in attempt to rebuff Apple's popular TV commercials, which have portrayed Microsoft and PCs as uncool

The commercial itself: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/

I don't get it...

Anyone ? Anyone?

I saw the commercial and found it to be stupid. It was not even clear to me until the very end that it was a Microsoft commercial. At first I thought it was a shoe commercial. Also, the image of Bill Gates shaking his ass is not something that inspires confidence in Microsoft products.

If this is how they are using Seinfeld to hit back at the Justin Long Apple commercials, I am disappointed. I think the apple ads are full of shit, but that is another topic.

Lmfaol! Like you, EB I thought it was an ad for shoes..:D
I doubt that Bill Gates is still surrounded by the once awesome windows 95 advertising machine ... they were so imaginative and catchy!

Exposure.

Microsoft needs the exposure. They have a lot of money and they want to stay on top. They are threatened by free browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome. Seinfeld gets who knows how many millions of dollars to do a 30 second spot. Maybe Seinfeld needs the exposure too. Could it be that he is on the come back trail?

I also thought it was an ad for a shoe store chain. Made no real sense to me at all. Although it did show that Gates is able to laugh at himself and that Seinfeld's time as a relevant comedian is past. If this ad had come out when Seinfeld, the TV show, was still on the air, it would at least appear to be more current. But now, it just looks dated.

Oh well...it's the first of a series and hopefully the following ones will be a bit more interesting.

What a successful ad! I mean, everyone is talking about how shitty it is, and we are no longer talking about how crappy Vista is!

SUCCESS!

the ad was hilarious.

you don't have to talk about your product in every commercial. microsoft is merely producing a "seinfeld" skit... associating itself w/ something well known and popular.

take a closer look around. it's done all the time.
