    > Should I install Windows Vista Service Pack 1?

i did. been using vista since february 2008 because it was factory installed on my new desktop & new laptop. despite all the bad press about vista, i haven't crashed once. i continually install all of the important updates when they come thru windows update, which included service pack 1.

    no idea.

i'm a basic ie7/gmail/ms office/ms money/skype/cd-dvd burning type user. i don't use torrents. i don't bother delving too deep into the technical underpinnings of the operating system anymore so i have no idea why there are so many complaints about vista.

maybe the "power" users out there can shed some different light.

Yes, without any doubt, you should install service pack 1. There are no cons, only pros. Of course, like any major update or service pack, back up any critical data before proceding. But you should not have any problems and you will notice a slight increase of overall speed once it's installed, especially with file transfers. Takes about 45min to an hour to install with a couple of reboots along the way. If you are running an anti-virus program, I would recommend you disable the real time protection before installing as some of them will interfere in any system file modifications.

If you are also running Office 2007, I would check for any updates for that as well while you're at it.

I find Vista much faster with SP1. Maybe it's just wishful thinking but it seems faster.
