Mail Order Brides - Would You Do It?

I imagine that one of the main reasons why many of us hobby is because we've had enough of your typical attitudes of North American based women here. So I'm sure this is how the whole mail order bride industry started.

So my question for discussion is, would any of you consider this route of going overseas for a foreign bride? Have any of you done it?

Strangely enough, I do know someone who basically has done the same thing, only through his church. He has had three arranged marriages with Filipino women that he never met before they were brought over here to Quebec for the wedding. One ended in divorce, one died in a car accident and he is now on his third. Depending how you look at it, seems to have worked out for him.

But if I was looking for a mail order bride, this is where I'd start...

    Hello Techman,

Women from Russia and the former USSR states are some of the most beautiful in the world, especially those with Scandinavian descent. Out of this link see Kristina page 1, and Julia page 3.

However, it's a nice fantasy, but I can't see it working out without many visits just like trying to find the right woman under any circumstances.

Some say that many MOB marriages don't work out, I really wonder if those stats are any worse than with a North American woman. I can see some cultural differences (as well as our Canadian winters) might be tough. So maybe if there is some things that make such a couple compatible, then it might work.

Interestingly enough, I was having coffee with a Pakistani guy and an Arab guy. They were talking about how they would never a Canadian woman, even if she was of their ethnicity. One of them was telling about how he was on the phone with a friend and this friend was busy cleaning their bathroom toilets. They were laughing at this because they claim that if this friend married an overseas woman rather than a Canadian woman, he would never have had to clean toilets. The one thing that really blew my mind was during this conversation at the coffee shop, the Pakistani's wife (from overseas) was sitting with us smiling the entire time.

EE, I agree with you in most cases. The agency whose link I posted is actually a quite reputable one. I had a friend who actually took one of their tours over to Russia and he was very impressed in the service and the quality of the ladies he was introduced to.

Unfortunately, as Korbel posted, with most of these ladies it would take time to build a relationship as well as a number of visits. The overall cost would be beyond the average person's ability to afford.

But damn...Russian women can be beautiful!

    Yes EE,

    There is always that risk.

    Hello ES,

Yes, well I just saw an expose last night showing how some young Muslim women from Afghanistan had deliberately burned their own faces to protest the cruelty some endure since they had no legal protection from the beatings from their husbands and/or in-laws. So it's no surprise that these guys are happy with women of their country and their marriages. Their wives are under their control, and marital slavery for women is a possibility among Muslims in these areas of the world. I was also good friends for a while with an American born Turkish Muslim who generally looked at women much the same way. Muslim women are to be obedient perfect paragons of virtue. In fact, another expose cited the execution of a women because she did not successfully fight off a rape. But, Muslim men can mess around with other women who are often looked at as whores to be used for their pre-marital pleasures.

    Cheers,

    Who knows?

Given the vagaries of romance all relationships are unpredictable. Of course sometimes it isn't romance.

You have the loser and or tyrant looking for a bride and the user bride looking for a passport to a new land and prosperity.

The cultural differences can be exciting or relationship ending.

Know a female from an Asian land... married a Canadian after knowing him for 2 weeks... strains in marriage as Philippine women control the family finances... she now has 3 relatives here and more coming.

Have some involvement with another Asian lady... sweet, innocent, sly as a fox... always another layer under the one you see... after knowing her for 2 weeks she was pretty well running my life... and yet insisted on kneeling down and tying my shoes.

Know a fair number of Asian women and they seem very practical about relationships and maybe that ain't all bad.

I think for most of us Canadian based men, we probably won't take advantage of MOB women like the Muslim men in their own countries. I think for us, it's more of the fact that we are tired of women here who do not recognize the respective places the man and woman have in the homes. Especially the modern career bitch who insists that men do 50% of the housework as well as the baby care. I know some men are able to tolerate this but I for one, have a real problem with this, especially if I will be the main breadwinner. The Career bitch's concept of the ideal partnership just doesn't jive for me and I'm sure many of you.

    Hello ES,

Wow...a lot of resentment and rough attitude toward women here.

    Not good,

I think this is very common with all 2nd and 3rd world countries. They don't have to be muslim they can be hindu buddhists sikhs etc.The women over there have won't leave you or divorce you over the stupidest things.Even here I know some Canadians that believe and practice in pre-marital pleasures, women are under there control and marital slavery exists on this side of the world too.

I would have no problem considering it, but I doubt I would ever use a professional service. Why bother with the advent of the internet anyways?

For myself I've had some extremely long distance, long term, relationships that could have lead to marriage but it just didn't work out for one reason or another. So I see no problem with marrying foreigners.

Finally, I see nothing wrong with Canadian women. Different people have different values. I don't look down on women whose values differ from mine, I just know that we'll be friends but never husband and wife.

Same with me actually. Quite a lot of my friends are women and they are them career bitches I was referring to. It's not resentment because I consider them friends, more like guys rather than females I would want a relationship with.

I'm not hoping to make some woman my slave at home. I would just want somebody to take care of the house while I'm bringing in the bucks. I know it sounds old fashioned but is that so bad?
