Good looking open minded single woman seeking rich young good looking open minded American man who wants to marry and get Canadian citizenship. I am sure I can trade a Canadian citizenship against those prerequisites. :)

I almost had a heart attack when I read the title of this thread. Anyways, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that there are federal elections in Canada this Tuesday and nobody seems to be writing about them

It is funny to see that many Canadians now think that the outcome of the US presidential elections will have more impact on their lives than that of the canadian ones.

Which is absolutely correct. As we saw over the past 8 years, the US elections do matter greatly to what happens in the rest of the world. I doubt the Canadian army would be holed up in Afghanistan if it wasn't for what happened in US politics over the past 8 years. Harper won't bring the army back home since he's in bed with Bush. The price of oil in Canada has skyrocketed mostly due to Bush's disastrous economic & foreign policies. It's the domino effect seen throughout the world's economy caused mostly by what happens in the US.

Anyways, Canadian politics are boring. It's the same old crap year after year.

It is more tragic when fellow canadians follow the trend of the yanks on election. When the US had Big Bubba, we got Chretien who turned Canada into a socialist welfare thirld world country.

When the yanks got it right and elected W., we followed their lead and chose the torries who cleaned up the 14 year old mess.

Come Tuesday, please vote Torries. And help us set a trend that the yanks would follow.

But why would any Canadian elections have any impact on the lives of Canadians? Isn't Canada still governed by the Governor General appointed by the Queen? Last time I checked, the Queen's image is still on a lot of Canadian bills.

The Queen is simply a figurehead in Canada's constitution. She has zero impact or say in the country's politics. Same goes for Australia, India & all of the other countries of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The role of the Governor General, as everybody knows, is just symbolic. Some might say, it is just a money sucking machine. The Queen has no say in her own country, let it in Canada.

The impact of the elections on Canadians have been minimum for the past 4 years, not because of the Governor General, but because we only had minority governments.

I don't like Bush and I'm not speaking about the other issues in this campaign, but to blame Harper for having troops in Afghanistan is pretty dishonest. The Liberals under Chretien got us in there, and the Liberals under Martin upgraded our mission from peacekeeping to active fighting. Harper has come in and set a firm exit date in a little over 2 years.

As for the oil price, kudos to Stephane Dion for admitting that the price is high because the Chinese and Indians want to have a lifestyle similar to ours. Oil might get cheap in the short run if we go into recession. But make no mistake, it will go through the roof again in a few short years.

Talking about oil, this video is pretty interesting. Starts off a little slow with some exposition, but really gets going in part 2: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2rkpBSY&feature=related

I do blame Harper. Of course, the Canadian forces first went in when Chretien/Martin were in power, which was the correct thing to do at the time. It was supposed to be strictly a peace-keeping mission with a clear exit strategy once their mandate was up. However, since Harper's been in power, troop levels have increased & the mission has changed. Canada has since been involved in actual fighting & their peace-keeping mission has been thrown down the gutter. Canada's troops are now bogged down in dangerous Taliban territory since other NATO allies have since been unwilling to join them in the fighting & take over for them, as they had originally promised. Harper loves it!

Our troops are in violent territory because Paul Martin chose to upgrade our presence from peace keeping to war fighting in Kandahar (Despite objections from ex-PM Chretien). You can see this going back to 2005: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20050730/troops_kandahar_050729?s_name=&no_ads=

Harper came to power with this choice already in place and had no part in it. As for your comment that Harper "Loves it", it's pretty disgusting to accuse someone of taking glee from death and destruction when he wasn't even responsible for it.

I won't take for granted what anything CTV reports. It's been pretty obvious that the network is in bed with Harper's government. Not as bad as what Fox News does for the Republican party, but close. Proof of this is the interview they aired in regards to Dion, an interview that they had promised wouldn't be aired. Of course, since the interview made him look ridiculous since he couldn't understand the question(s) being asked to him, they did a 180 & aired the interview. Even that toad Duceppe felt the network had went too far.

Uh... dude, check the date on that news report. It was written at the time Martin made his decision. Unless you're saying they faked their website too. lol.

Dion would not have answered differently, promise or not. The promise was made at the end of the interview.

And yes, it is pretty foolish to spend 30 days blasting your opponent for not doing enough, and then not be able to answer the simple question "What would you have done differently?"

By the way, it seems obvious to me that he understood the question, but had nothing to say. See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt1HJeOw_nE

Whatever. I still say that Canada would be out of Afghanistan if anyone other than G.W. Harper would have been the country's PM these past couple of years.

Yeah, if Martin had been reelected, he would have rushed to get us out of the mission he himself "upgraded" us into. You're dreaming.

Harper set a fixed date for us to pull out: a little over 2 years from now when the mission Paul Martin volunteered us for runs out.

Save your venom for Martin. He did a great job as Minister of Finance, but then usurped Chretien's leadership, destroyed the Liberal party, revived the Bloc and generated tremendous hatred of Canada among many Quebec voters.

If anyone put Harper in power, it's Paul Martin.

I hope they're out of Afghanistan in 2 years, but i doubt it. I sense they'll still be bogged down in Afghanistan 5 years from now. As for Paul Martin, he had a major fault: he was too honest. But that's not what did him in. Chretien & Alfonso Gagliano's corruption did him in. First, Chretien never left him alone & constantly undermined him. As for Gagliano, he was in charge of the sponsorship scandal which we all know was drowning in corruption & all of this happened under Chretien's watch as PM. Martin inherited this mess when Chretien finally stepped down & retired from politics & did the right thing by calling for an investigation into the corruption. However, his honesty came to bite him in the ass & that prick Chretien made a spectacle of the hearings when he was called on to testify.

As for the 'revival of the Bloc party', i don't get it. What revival? They were never down to begin with. But even if Louis St-Laurent or anyone else would have been PM wouldn't have changed anything in Quebec. The majority of Quebecers don't really give a damn about federal politics & will vote for anything that has the 'Quebecois' brand on it, thinking they're the party who looks out for the interests the most, which of course is a pile of manure. Like the Parti Quebecois (PQ), the Bloc Quebecois only has its own selfish interests at heart & will pursue its own political agenda, Quebecers be damned. All these two parties have been doing to Quebec for the past decade & more is to slow down its progress, increase its debt & economic hardships. They're radical parties & nothing good for the province of Quebec will ever come as long as they keep on getting votes either in federal elections or in the provincial parliament.

Now, trying to stay on topic, i just saw a discussion among top conservatives (incl. George Will) discussing how out-of-control the McCain campaign has become. They showed clips of the racial & hate comments heard at the McCain & Palin rallies. They showed McCain explaining to a couple of dingbats that no, Barack Obama is not an Arab & that he was a good family man...that he was a decent person. The panel then explained that he says this then turns around & states that Obama is a liar who also hangs around with terrorists. That he's simply fuelling the venom. The whole campaign is totally crazy!

By they way, has anyone noticed that in the last debate, McCain not once mentionned his running mate's name? Isn't this very odd? Has anyone noticed that he mentionned Joe Lieberman's name at least on two occasions in that debate? Everyone close to the inside is well aware that Lieberman was McCain's first choice as running mate, but was denied this wish by the leaders in his party. So, he turned around & did the unexpected & did the "I"ll show you" thing: he nominated a total unknown & unqualified far right conservative from Alaska, of all places.........yep, he's a maverick all right. But never for what counts the most.

Hey Centaurus,

You are truly NUTS! You don't think that 12 years of Republican domination of the Congress and 8 years of Bush caused this utterly dire world crisis, and you think that the idiot Bush great. You must be the spawn of Karl Rove and a one-nighter with a sexually repressed ultra religious conservative groupie.

PUKE!
