A very sad story! This fellow is not the first and certainly wont be the last. This story will probably eventually make it to one of the several "true crime" shows on TV. In this case it happened to be an escort. But the confidence crime game would seem to have no special type. It happens often in business. Society will always provide the emotionally vulnerable as fodder for the sociopathic confidence men and women. He could have easily met someone like this on a dating site. Despite, as has been stated on other threads here, the belief that escorts have nothing but contempt for their clientele, to single them out as a group to beware of for this kind of thing just might be a bum rap. It's a minefield out there and it's called "Life."

I agree that the fact she worked in the sex business isn't necessarily relative. People screw others & get screwed back in all walks of life. There are also as many unsuspecting women getting screwed by scumbags than men getting screwed by women.

A few years ago, a lady friend of mine fell in love with an american. He was the love-of-her-life, she would tell me & others. He was kind to her, gentle...and boy, was "he ever handsome!", the women would say. They got married & she waited until she got her green card before settling down in the states with him. When she finally moved away to be with him, she noticed his behaviour had changed a lot. He also was very mentally abusive to her & regularly would embarrass her & yell at her in public. He would constantly flood her with personal insults. She eventually began to hear rumours that he was seeing other girls.

Finally when she had enough of the abuse, she left him & filed for divorce. He stalked her constantly & would regularly call her late at night & shout insults and obscenities at her. Shortly after their separation, she found out that he had raided their bank account & there wasn't a penny left. Earning a very good salary, she had for the time being been the major contributor to the joint bank account. The stalking continued, so she decided to relocate & filed a restraining court order against this creep. The divorce was finally finalized & she's reclaimed her life. However, i've always worried for her since it seems she has a knack to always meet these types of creeps, who in her case are most of the time jock types, the kind of guys she's attracted to.

right ... but I think that proportionately, and logically the sex industry is going to have a higher number of women who aren't traditional to begin with, make a decision to work outside of the law, and as such are more likely to take the step towards conning men. Their entire act in bedroom is a con, after all.

I don't necessarily agree with this line of thinking, however, i'll agree that the odds of this happening with someone with 'sex business' experience might be higher since they meet hundreds & thousands (?) of men over their brief 'career'. The opportunities are higher.

By the way, how about them Bills today??

A good measure might be to make a study of this kind of fraudulent behaviour to see just what percentage of occurrences of this sort have involved sex workers. Even a study of just the convictions would be revealing. I am betting the percentage is quite low. But that is just a guess.

Most of these scams go unreported anyways. It'd be next to impossible to have a valid study.

One thing i've learned from these articles is that i should have went into computing a long time ago when i wasn't sure what i wanted to do prior to entering university. This guy in the articles seemed to be making major $$$. Computer analysts make that kind of money?

You are forgetting that outcall prostitution is legal in Canada.

They will forget what you said,
they will forget what you did,
but they will never forget the way you made them feel.

He spent and lost over $800,000 on her so I guess his computing job that he has is certainly paying well, it says in the article that he works for the government and he has his own computer software company.
