Anyone stayed at this hotel? Can't seem to find any info. on the threads. Staying there at the end of March and was wondering if it was a decent spot? Also, planning to meet a couple of SP's during my time there. Elevator key?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest, I got it on Hotwire. $47 US night...3.5 star and this is what came up when I booked. I used Hotwire recently and snagged Embassy suites (very nice hotel but dang elevator key!) at same price.

Haven't bid with Priceline, have seen a lot of threads discussing it. SK, is it a better vehicle that Hotwire in getting a good deal?

The Embassy Suites also came as 3.5* on Hotwire? Were the same amenities displayed by both? Personally, I prefer Priceline over Hotwire but using PL recently has been risky due to being given the Doubletree multiple times when bidding on a 3*.

The Doubletree group dropped it from their roster. I'm not surprised. It's now called the "Grand Plaza Hotel". I can't remember the last time i've seen a hotel change names so many times in only a few years.

I've been avoiding anything under 4 stars since this dump has been appearing on the PL roster.

Yes, the Embassy came as a 3.5 on hotwire. The amenities displayed were the same except Le Nouvel listed a spa. So, I didn't really know what I was getting into when I accepted this 3.5 star. Thought it may have been Delta, Crown Plaza, etc., but it was the Le Nouvel.

Anyone know if it's a decent spot? Have you stayed here Doc? Anyone else?

A former hobbyist (unless he's flying under the radar) whom i used to be in contact with would always stay at this hotel during his frequent trips to Mtl. He absolutely loved it. The sps i spoke with who've been to this hotel have also given the place high marks. I nearly stayed there myself once, but had to cancel my trip. The only reason why i've never stayed there in the past is mostly because it's not as close to the downtown area as much as i'd like.

From the outside, it looks like a very nice place & fully renovated.

Great, thanks for the info., Doc. I agree, it would be nicer if it was closer to the downtown core but i'm more concerned about the quality of the hotel/room. Don't mind taking the metro or walking.

This makes me feel somewhat reassured. Thanks again.

It's actually very close to the downtown core at St. Mathieu. It's only a short distance from Crescent St on Rene Levesque. 4 blocks from Crescent. It goes Guy, Mckay, Bishop, Crescent.

Also, it looks very nice now since it's renovation!! Please let us know what you think of it after your stay danno.

One last question danno. Are you sure that the Embassy Suites was listed as a 3.5* and not a 4*? On betterbidding.com they said that the Embassy Suites was listed as a 4* with the following amenities, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business.

Thanks for the information SK. And yes i'm sure the Embassy suites is a 3.5* on Hotwire. I paid $ 171.37 US ($ 217 CDN) for three nights. Had a great suite...large kitchenette, jacuzzi, separate bdrm., fireplace in living room, free full made to order breakfast, managers reception every night from 5:30 - 7:30 ( 2 free beverages of your choice). Great spot, the only thing I didn't like was the elevator key....impossible to be discreet.

Stayed there 01/28/09 thru 01/31/09. Bear in mind the 3.5 * listed currently on Hotwire is Le Nouvell as I just booked it for March. The only difference in the listing was the spa. So, if you're considering booking now, you'll probably get Le Nouvel.

I'll post a review of the hotel when i get back.

I was looking at this place until I saw the guest reviews on tripadvisor.com.

This comment in particular got my attention:

BAD EXPERIENCE, NEVER AGAIN!! Apparently when next door takes a dump, the odour slowly creeps into your room. The washroom floor was sticky, which was quite alarming, and the "NON-SMOKING" room smelled like smoke and had an ash tray!!

Phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
