I would just like to warn all of you that the LE are on a rampage, giving out tickets for the smallest infractions.
I got 2 tickets in the last 72 hours!!! One because I wasn't wearing my seat belt and the other was I was going 40 in a 30 zone.
Most of my friends have recieved tickets for just stupidty too!!!

So be careful!!!

Wow You call not wearing a seat belt a stupidity... from what century are you. Also, 30 zones are for heavy pedestrian activity or school zone.

You well deserve your tickets

Ok the seat belt it's my fault but the speeding ticket is stupidity. I've taken that road for 15 years,
twice a day and could say honestly I've never done 30 and no one else does the speed limit either.

I agree with "Make It Bacon". The speeding ticket is just plain stupidity. Just a cash grab. So what? He was going 10km/hr above the speed zone? There are a lot of conditions that dictate driving speed. The driver is responsible to make the right judgment. If I am on highway 401 at nighttime and there are no cars I am gonna speed up to 160km/hr however if the same highway there freezing rain is falling I am gonna drive a lot slower probably not exceed 100km/hr. But the seat belt thing I agree with giving the ticket.

Lol :D ! It is funny you bring up the century thing. The speed limits on highways are completely outdated. The 100km/hr limit was set in the 70's due to the oil crisis because 90km/hr was the most fuel efficient speed so they made it at 100km/hr but in this century cars are much more fuel efficient with far better suspension and handling then before and are much more capable of handling higher speeds.

Another sign spring is here!

Well, no matter if it is deserved or not, the cops are in spring mode now, which means tighter/ more to the letter application of traffic laws. It's a yearly thing, and will last for a few weeks as usual.
Though this is bad for wallets of the ones who get tickets, it seems to be necessary for public safety as many people have started speeding more and driving like maniacs with the snow melting and the roads being less slippery... Hormones are flowing!

Okay, i must say that if you weren't wearing your seatbelt, you deserved that first ticket. People not wearing a seatbelt who wind up being involved in accidents wind up costing big $$ to insurers & taxpayers in the form of medical bills (and increased insurance premiums). Even more if the accident victim dies (lawsuits, sorrow to the victims' families, etc).

As for getting charged for going 40 in a 30 zone, were you REALLY going 40? In many cases, the speeder is going at a higher speed than the one he's charged with. The cops often decide to do the guy a favor & lower the fine in order to save him from getting demerit points on his license & increased insurance premiums. Come on...what was the speed you were actually clocked at?

For Master Bates I got both tickets in the Rosemont area.
As for Doc I was really going 40, that's why I called it stupidity.

I totally agree that the seat belt is my own stupidity, it's a bad habit.
I usally don't wear it for short drives.

Driving without a seatbelt is simply stupid. I was in an accident a week and a half ago and if I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt I wouldn't be here today. Even with the belt I injured my ribs and have been on the mend since then. Wear your seatbelt, even on short trips.

For the speeding ticket, that was a bumb rap. Most people drive at least 40 in a 30 zone. But by any chance was there a park or school in the area? That could lead to less tolerance these days. Anyways, spring is on the way and that always means that more tickets will be handed out.

Cops do that sometimes, hang around a little longer to catch people when they don't expect it. There's a school in Boucherville where they set up speed traps in the late morning, around 10 am, and in the early afternoon around 2 pm and they catch a lot of people unawares.

Thanks for the well wishes. Feeling much better last couple of days.

Okay, be honest now. What was your reaction when the cop stopped you and/or charged you? Did you berate him with insults? I'm not saying that you deserved the ticket, but if you did, maybe that's why he made the decision to further charge you.

If not & you were polite with him & you indeed were going only 10 km over the limit, then you either got a bum rap or he just hated your guts & wanted to nail you with something.

So you got a ticket, now what do you do?

Here are a few best practices:

1. DELAY, DELAY, DELAY!!!!!! Keep putting off that court date! You don't want to go to court! You want to make it so the cop thinks the case is so far in the past he'll never remember anything. You can easily get your case delayed two years or longer. That's plenty of time for the cop to switch departments, get fired, quit, become a priest etc... The longer you wait the better chance the cop won't show up.

2. Request information: (depending where you live they may or may not give you any of this):

a.Copies of manufacturers names, including makes, models and serial numbers of all radar guns in use by Police Department.

b. Copies of manufacturers recommended maintenance for all of the above stated radar guns.

c. Copies of any manufacturer literature as it relates to the correct use, including but not limited to mounting, aiming, weather and traffic limitations, for all radar guns in use n that juridiction.

d. A copy of the past six months' maintenance records for all of the above stated radar guns, including, but not limited to, calibration specifications.

e. A copy of the Authorized Certification of Training, issued to the Officer who gave you the ticket, in the proper use of all radar guns in use by the Police Department he/she works for.

f. A copy of the patrol car assignments for the date you got the ticket.

This should give you something to work with, and also make the cop not want to show up to deal with all this crap!

Plus, if you do eventually get into a courtroom and the officer does show up, there are about 25 things you can do to make sure you laugh his (or her) ass out of the courtroom and leave with no fine.

Doc when I got stopped I was in shock when he told me I was speeding.
I replied are you seroius but with a very polite voice. Then he started to go on a power trip, acting tough but I still remained polite. I gave him my license shaking my head, I keeped calm because I knew I was in a no win situation at that moment and just accepted the charge.

I think the cop just hated my guts. The sad part is that he was probably
5'8,175lbs and I'm 6'2, 210lbs. He would have never act tough with me if he wasn't wearing his uniform. He must suffer from the small guy complex.

....or he's another high school bully victim

They all become cops and try to take their frustrations out on society

I've noticed people that drive expensive cars are usually more prone

to tickets as well.

I am also no lawyer :D , but I know some lawyers and they say if you have a few good reasons and ask for the cop to be in court they rarely deny you.
