Is shame a good deterrent?

Just trying to get a poll going: If LE instituted a system in your area that publicly shamed hobbyists, similar to the way they describe in this article, would that make you think twice before contacting a provider?

Contrary to Canada, America was founded on christian ideals which may be anachronistic since each generation changes greatly compared to the former. (let's not turn this into a religious debate)

It's most unlikely that such an idiotic exhibition would occur in Canada, but if it were to happen in America, a few of us would be pissed off because the tax money spent on such programs could be used to better human rights, poverty, hunger, etc.
Instead, it's spent making sure a few people don't participate in an activity that yields mutual pleasure for money.

Back onto the subject, it would suck to have your face plastered onto a giant billboard.

Would it deter most people? yes. Would it be likely to happen in the more liberal states? nope.

I wish people would realize that no matter how harsh the punishment would be, people will still do what they feel like.

long story short, i wish use of taxpayer money in america was used more wisely. Rather than allocating money to prevent people from getting their pork sausage marinated, they could be preventing what's really wrong with the whole business, e.g. pimps, drug abuse, etc.

I am not in a relationship, so I would not care as much as others. Of course I would not like to see my face on the public bulletin board, next to the bank robbers and wanted criminals...

Sadly I think this does not adress the reality of hobbying. Is it a crime? Is it really wrong? Is it something to be ashamed of? Or is it something society would like to make you think is wrong/shamefull? Lying to your partner is wrong, maybe--and I don't want to get into a GG-style debate here about the morals of the hobby!

You see, a humongous majority would agree murder and rape are wrong, bad. If you surveyed people publicly and could scan their minds at the same time, you'd realize their voiced opinion is probably 99,9% of the time the same as their deep thoughts. But I am sure this is far from the same situation for seeing SPs! There is a dissociation between what many people think deep down and will state publicly, to fit in. Hypocrisy? Sometimes society forces us to be hypocritical. How would I be treated by my peers if they knew I smoked pot? If they knew I get pissed drunk once in a while. I they knew I saw SPs? But is any of this wrong? Have I offended anyone?

What worries me in the case of public shaming is similar to lynching, i.e. people getting judged and condemned by the public where there is no such place for this...
