Same-Sex Marriage Bias Loses Miss USA Title

Hello all,

A probably gay ( in view of his reaction ) judge at the Miss USA beauty pageant, Perez Hilton, asked Miss California how she felt about same-sex marriage and whether it should be legalized in every state. Then he goes on video to call her "A Dumb Bitch" because he didn't like the answer. Miss California seemed to be ahead on all cards, so to speak, and the reaction of this judge may have cost her the title. Well, the way they pick these judges isn't very scientific and I guess he has the right to score the answer as he sees it. But if you watch the video you will see she was pretty respectable about it, though not providing a long-explained answer, and I don't see why there is a problem with someone basing an answer on their beliefs on this issue though they don't match mine or why the judge should be so rude about a pretty decent response.

My question is do you think this judge, given his attitude as recorded at 2:40 in the video, was too biased to be fair to anyone who disagreed with his obvious position??? It thought the scoring in these contests was supposed to be about how well someone responds, not a politically correct litmus on any issue. Perez may have a fairly rational explanation in the first video after the insult, but his reaction seems to be more about disagreement than the quality of the contestant's answer. Was this guy fair...or just a prick?

Unfortunately it seems that the link you provided is not available in Canada as all I get is "This content is unavailable" no matter which clip I choose. Bummer.

Was Perez Hilton the judge in question? If so, he is an idiot who is only famous for a celebrity gossip blog he runs. I have no idea what he would be doing as a judge of the Miss USA pagent.

I hate Perez he's soo annoying and trashy

He is VERY gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) doesnt hide it

Techman, they always have celebrities/athletes as some of the judges at

pageants. I'm sure the clip will end up on youtube one of these days.

You expected scientific objectivity at Miss USA? Those pageants are not what they used to be, they are only a step or two away from adding a pole-dancing component. And none too soon.

Ish,

PS

I have never heard of Perez Hilton before.

Verify the possibility that in such competitions the high and low score from the panel of judges for each contestant in each segment is dropped.

Would make Perez Hilton a bit of a comic relief whose purpose is to bring the TV ratings up.

Draw from the widest possible demographics.

Could provide an interesting answer to "Where's the beef?".:D

I watched the Miss USA pagent the other night & i was stunned at her answer. Until then, she was my favorite to win the event. I remember thinking immediately after hearing her answer.."Boy, she's definitely a REAL blond that one!" :D

Octavian, haven't you noticed that most male fashion designers are gay? I would guess that they have a good idea on what makes a woman beautiful and would make perfect judges at a beauty contest. One thing for sure is that they can't be bribed with a quickie in the coatroom! I used to work on fashion shows and to be really honest, the gay men who were involved really knew what they were doing, much more so than the straight guys who were more interested in the body under the clothes that how the clothes looked on the lady.:p

As far as her answer goes, well even though I am not religious in any way shape or form, I do believe that marriage is a religious more than a legal partnership between two people. I have no problem with gay couples having the same legal status and rights as married straight couples, but strangely enough the term 'marriage' does bother me when used to refer to a gay couple's partnership. Must be my Catholic upbringing bubbling to the surface.

I think this was a great answer! She say she have no problems with same-sex marriage but she was raised to expect a marriage as a man and a woman and that's the way she sees it. She's true to her convictions but is open to others. She didn't condemn same-sex marriage, she said she think it's great peoples who choose to do so can do it.
