I guess one national embarrassment is enough. :D

TORONTO - The NHL has confirmed that deputy commissioner Bill Daly met with a group of business people interested in bringing a second team to the Toronto area.

But the league says that was the extent of it.

"There is no consideration of bringing a second franchise to Toronto," the league said in a statement. "We have no intention to expand in the foreseeable future, and there is no desire to relocate any of our existing franchises."

Last week's meeting was first reported by The Globe and Mail, which said the group proposed building an arena in Vaughan, on land north of Pearson International Airport that's owned by businessman Victor De Zen.

OUI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ouff ..... Quebec City already had a team, and lost it !! Too small a market for the NHL, and the whole Eric Lindros affair did not help.

Personally, I think Montreal should have a second team ..... why not bring back the Montreal Maroons ?? Now that was a team !! !! !! They played in the NHL from 1924 to 1938, winning the Stanley Cup in 1926 and 1935 - better than the Nordiques ever did .... :)

Cheers,

Billy

Quebec City lost "it" because of lack of a salary cap, now that there is one and will be forever, and with a new arena , QC would flourish with a team, it was great for hockey to see the rivalry between Montreal and Quebec, and i would love to be able to experience that first hand

as far as being to small a market, no way,... they are getting 10,000 plus a night at Pepsi Colisee to see 18yr olds (QMJHL) and if you check , im pretty sure they sold out most games when they had a NHL team, , even in Todays economy they would still fill to capacity in a hotbed area for Hockey Like Quebec City and surrounding area's

Yes they do but Rempart tickets are between $5 and $12. NHL tickets today would have to be between $25 - $200 so it would be a very different story.

I owed a pair of season tickets for the last five years the Nordiques were around and Le Colisee was indeed sold out for every game. Capacity was a bit over 13,000 of which less than 4,000 were season ticket holders so as much as I'd like the see my Habs visit three or four times a year again, the need for a new arena and the lack of big businesses will likely make that impossible. :(

There's one reason why Quebec lost their NHL hockey team & that's because the governments refused to finance a new arena for the Nordiques. That's the main reason. They needed an arena with more seating capacity & private booths to finance the team in order to stay competitive in the NHL. There was no talk of a salary cap back then & it wouldn't have made a difference. The arena was simply too small for NHL standards.

I wouldn't mind also seeing a team in Winnipeg & one in the biggest hockey market on the planet, southern Ontario. It's crazy that they only have one team to cover all of southern Ontario when cities like NY & the LA area have more than one team.

At least we made the playoff, how many years in a row Toronto missed them?

I don't understand personally why there is team in Atlanta, Pheonix, Nashville and other place like that when there no more team in Quebec. They should bring back the Nordiques from Colorado.

What does this thread have to do with the Leafs?

Have you ever considered of at least making a small attempt in making relevant posts? The consensus among all of us so far is that most of your posts are borderline idiotic.

By the way, i'm still waiting for that 'public announcement' due to that bet we made. :D
