Usually i would not blame a player for signing elsewhere for X reason, but Hossa did clearly signed at detroit because he tought he had better chance winning stanley cup. I mean CMON, your team lost in 6 games in the finals, and you go elsewhere, its not like he was with the flyers or rangers, wich are team that usually do playoff but never get to the conference finals(lately)

He decided to switch and paid for it.... But i know detroit still got plenty of year in the top spot...so well, he may get his cup... But i do think if the penguins administration do good decision, they may have a dynasty in the making. Overall Fleury have been solid, Crosby/Malkin are stars, Jordan Staal can be a very good player, they had obscure hero such as Talbot. Maybe they only need young blood as defense, considering Gonchar is not young.

You have to consider the Penguins situation when Hossa made his decision. If they had continued the year with the coach they started it with, chances are that they would have not even made the playoffs. In that case, Hossa's decision would have been golden. But the Pens changed coach which turned the team completely around. So you really can't say he made the wrong choice at the time he made it.

Anyways they managed to pull it out and they won a well deserved Stanley Cup. Thanks to Max Talbot! Congrats to a home town boy!

A couple of things I wish the NHL would change for next years playoffs:

ONE: have the refs call the games the same way as in the regular season. Either that or call the regular season like the playoffs. Anything else makes a total farce of the rules and makes the game as a whole look bad. Considering how much they put the rulebook away, I was afraid of seeing a series or even the cup decided by a delay of game call for the puck being cleared over the glass. And that would have been a huge embarassment.

TWO: let the players shake hands before the media is permitted to start their interviews. Crosby barely had the time to get to shake the hands of one or two players. The handshake is a tradition unique to hockey and it should be upheld and not let to fall into a farce. The captain of the winning team should have been among the first, if not the first, in line to shake hands, not the last. Whether that was due to Crosby's youth, simple lack of class, which I highly doubt, or because he was held up by the media, it's irrelevant. He should have been in line.

Congratulations to the Penguins. And I'm damn glad I didn't have any money on the series cause I would have lost!
And the Lord said unto John, "Come forth and receive eternal life." But John came fifth and won a toaster.

I always founded the handshake a farce from the start personally. Players fight and bitch themselves all series long, then they handshake...couldn't care less if it disapear in the futur...

As for coach, im still septical about that, i could never understand why a team make the finals a year with a coach and then the year after its the coach fault and all of this. The new coach is young and inexperienced, he was hired as a quick solution replacement to finish the year... i would be really surprise if it was for his good coaching skill that the team won. Im pretty sure some players had enought of the coach and made sure he got fired...he is known to have an attitude... Anyway in the end that was a good decision but well...

Calling Hossa a traitor just because he signed with Detroit instead of Pittsburgh is unjustified. If he hadn't signed with Detroit, i doubt he would have signed with Pittsburgh. There were many other tempting & more lucrative offers out there. He actually signed with Detroit for less money than he was offered elsewhere, something about him i happen to respect.

You want a traitor? Point the finger at Dany Heatley. The guy signs a huge long-term contract with Ottawa. A NO-TRADE contract on top of that. Then, when he doesn't see eye-to-eye with the new coach & he doesn't appreciate being used less & being put on the 2nd unit of the powerplay, he goes to the media & asks for a trade. What a fuckin' bunch of nonsense!!!

Regarding Hossa, I found he played a good two way final but went goalless so it it will be interesting to see how much that will hurt his market value this summer. (I'd still take him on the Habs BTW. )

As for the Pens, I certainly wouldn't have bet on them either but you have to give them credit for a great team effort especially in games 6 & 7, but the biggest surprise for me was Marc-Andre Flury's performance, I never thought he could raise his game to that level.
