Thumbs down Expos and Red Sox in big 4 way trade (Garciaparra and Cabrera moved)

The Expos joined Boston and Chicago in the trade, receiving Alex Gonzalez from the Cubs and sending Orlando Cabrera to the Red Sox.

BOSTON (CP) -- Nomar Garciaparra is on his way to the Windy City. The all-star shortstop has been shipped to the Chicago Cubs in three-team trade.

The Red Sox pick up shortstop Orlando Cabrera from the Montreal Expos. He's expected to be a defensive upgrade from Garciaparra, who struggled in the field all season.

The Expos receive shortstop Alex Gonzalez from the Cubs. The former Toronto Blue Jay has played just 36 games this season, putting up two homers and eight RBIs.

Gonzalez for Cabrera? Are you kidding? Cabreras a better hitter, better fielder and a year younger, Bad deal for the Expos, but who the fuck cares, theyre gone next year

Well thats dumb for the sox. the cubs did ok if nomar can stay healthy.
Now, she should be good-looking, but we're willing to trade looks for a certain... morally casual attitude.

    Trade Analysis

Both Garciaparra & Cabrera were on the final year of their contracts and had already shown their intent not to re-sign with Boston and Montreal, respectively. Garciapara hadn't forgiven the Red Sox for attempting to trade him last spring. Cabrera was sick of the atmosphere in Mtl. Garciapara was having a terrible year defensively, and his focus wasn't where the organization felt it should be at, especially when he refused to play the 3rd game against the Yankees nearly a month ago.

The Sox also boosted themselves defensively with Doug M, whom they got to play first base from the Twinkies. Cabrera was having a sub-par year offensively, and most scounts around the league are certain he's injury-prone. However, he's been a clutch performer for the Expos when it counted.

The way i see it, the Sox felt they were getting a player that would not only improve their team chemistry, but better defensively. Derek Lowe will love Cabrera's knack at scooping up ground balls, where Nomar was lacking. The Expos, who are going nowhere, picked up a player that will be a part of the team for a longer period than Cabrera would have. I always liked Gonzo's defense, but he has a knack to strike out often.

I call the trade even for the Expos and Red Sox, with the Cubs a clear winner.

I agree. The days of watching Ellis Valentine, Larry Parrish, Warren Cromartie, Andre Dawson and Gary Carter are a thing of the past. Who could forget their ace, Steve Rogers? Relief ace Woody Fryman? Bill 'The Spaceman' Lee? Jeff Reardon? Manager Dick Williams? Ron Leflore and Rodney Scott? Ah...watching baseball in Mtl back then was almost as good as attending a Habs' game.

It's been getting more and more difficult going to games at the Big 'O', when other cities have been financing fantastic-looking stadiums all over the league. Even the good ol' Skydome in Toronto is nearly obsolete. The day the dreams of a downtown Labatt's Stadium went down, the team's future went along with it. There's nothing like watching a good baseball game, outside in the sun, with the teams playing on real grass, not the terrible astro-turf.
