The CPF!!!!!
Boy, believe me that's the "pet hate" of everybody.
CPF means
Cadastro de Pesoa Fisícas : it's a kind of citizenship card, a document you must show if you want do do any transaction in Brazil like open a bank account, have a cellular, drive a car, anything. Don't forget that not a long time ago Brazil was run by the army (UNTIL 1985 or 1986)...this is a remant of this inglorious era. At least we don't need a CPF to bang a garota!!!!!!
The message you received means that your CPF is not valid or that you didn't digit it properly. Naturally you couldn't digit it properly, you don't have one. Foreigners ordering things via the Internet don't need a CPF.
I've just check the Saraiva site and the overseas price is too expensive. The book costs R$29.90 and they ask R$84 to ship it in North America. The total will be: R$113,00 for a R$29.90 book....think it twice. Submarino fees are not that expensive.
I've search the Web for you and there's another place where you could have ordered the book:

at
www.livropronto.com.br
Unfortunately, you still need a CEP. Wait a couple of week (the book is not even a month old) and try to order it with Submarino.
