Hi, This thread is to ask user experiences from people who have bought tickets from people who advertise on merb, guys like user slippery when wet (or oiled?).

1. What the procedure/method of transaction?
(I would imagine cash, but do you have to meet him at his apt? Does he show up at a predetermined location 10 minutes before the game starts?).

2. Why not go through Ticketmaster or the Bell Center directly (if they still sell directly).

The way I see it, both they both want a profit over the list price, so why not just use a CC,
over the internet?

3. Is there a price advantage going through the MERB guy?

I have gotten (well it was a client) tickets for a sold out game at the bell center here on MERB... I do not remember which poster.

The advantage: the game was sold out when he bought the tickets.

They were good seats in the reds I believe row J (if I remember correctly) near the middle on the visitors side (facing the Canadians bench).

I do not know how much he paid.

Almost every Habs game at the Bell Center is sold out. Especially premium games. The scalpers jump on any available ticket(s) as soon as they're put on sale.

Not almost every game...every game is sold out. If you want tickets to a habs home game, either you know someone who has a couple for sale or you buy them from a scalper. And a ticket broker is just a fancy name for a scapler. If anyone wants standard ticket information the best place to get it is on the Bell Center web site. I think they may have a small number of tickets that they put on sale on game day or the day before, but they are usually gone in minutes.

Ocean, if you want to know how Slippery_When_Oiled handles his sales, why don't you just send him a PM and ask him?

I only mentioned him because he posted right now, I want to know overall way of doing business in this game,IE visiting them they meet you at a spot etc.

Moreover, as to my original question, why are people, paying scalpers on merb, when they can be sitting at their computer order through Bell Center , Admissions Network, etc. (basically organized scalpers).Basically both are making money/comission, so why not go with the guy that is doing it with teh least effort involved, is there better rates with miscellaneous merb scalpers?

Because you can't get a decent ticket though normal channels. Give it a try and see if you can buy a ticket in the reds for any game through the normal ticket agents. If you want a decent ticket you have to deal with scalpers.

You forgot to mention that it's single seats...

Btw before posting I tried at least 10 games ;)

Not always...I recently got 2 seats together Rouge and there were more available including seats behind the nets (on the Habs site). I think its all about timing and having some luck...;) I was persistent and just kept checking every day or so. I have not quite figured out the system if there is one as to when they release the seats...

Don't Ticketmaster etc. have contracts so that they can get better seats than scalpers?

Because 99.9% of the time you can't... I can't count how many times I've been sitting online (in the "waiting room") on the day they go on sale and got Nothing... I think the last time I bought Canadiens tix through the Canadiens was '05, when they were still doing phone orders. It doesn't help me much that Bruins games in Montreal are pretty sought after tickets. But I suck up the extra cost, and enjoy myself at the game, cause that's just the way it is these days...

No they don't... They sell tickets to whoever buys them... Most of whom are scalpers.

Short answer: NO.

Don't forget that many if not most of the reds are season tickets and some season ticket holders have their favourite scalpers that they use to sell tickets they don't use. I've done this myself with season tickets I have access to on occasion. These are not available to legal ticket agents as the tickets are already in the hands of the season ticket holders.

It's really no different than concert tickets. You can be the first person in line to get tickets to your favourite band and still not get the seats you want because they have all been pre-sold through various mysterious channels. The world is corrupt, what can I say.

and i have one of the best........ i got prestige , 2nd row from the ice for face value , but then again it was preseason, but for example i got a Leafs/Habs Sat Night HNIC game in the reds, about 20 rows up for only $150 a few weeks ago..... that seat usually sells for $200plus..... but i also spend alot with this guy so that helps......

well, i'm a single guy.

i've been able to get tickets in pairs many times off the site. other times when i couldn't get a pair i just walked down to the bell centre as a last resort, and they had pairs. it seems ticket availability is as complicated as airline ticket availability/pricing.

i'm just a casual hockey fan so there's no urgency to see certain games. it's a great sport to watch though, and it's possible the longer i live in mtl the higher the degree of urgency becomes. uh oh...

Merb Sclapers

I had the pleasure to buy hockey tickets from both kill shill and Slippery When Oiled last season.
Both were great guys to deal with we met at a predermined place over a month before a sold-out game and I really enjoyed the "Club House" junk food heaven lol

If you go to the Bell Center around game time you may be able to get some great deals. Scalpers will sell their tickets below face sometimes because it's better to sell them for something than to get stuck with the tickets and lose what they paid for them. Even if you miss a few minutes of the game you can end up saving 50 bucks or so on a ticket. You can spend the money you save on a beer and a couple of hotdogs. :p

Did that last season... We're also thinking about doing it for the Boston game in March.
