Theres a Canadian girl called Katie, I haven't heard of her,I don't think she's on Team Canada.

Speaking of Olympic athletes posing for Playboy, the hottest had to be figure skater Katerina Witt when she posed for Playboy. Least hot: Tonya Harding, but she never posed for Playboy, she just made a "wedding night" video

Where's Jenny?

Too bad Jenny Finch (USA softball pitcher) said no to Playboy....:(

As for the Canadian girl, she's Katie Vermeulen of London, Ontario, a 1500 meter runner who was cut from the team at the last minute.

There was a small picture in yesterday's Gazette of the Canadian women's softball team, apparently cheering on the Olympic baseball team. It was interesting because they weren't wearing their usual uniforms. Has anyone else seen this photo on the Web? I believe it was a Canadian Press photo.

I am very disappointed by the way the Canadian Olympic team has performed. Only 3 total medals through yesterday. By comparison Australia, a country that has approximately the same population as Canada, has 31 medals - over 10 times an many. The USA of course leads with 58 total medals through yesterday.

I understand Canada is a cold weather country that can be expected to perform better in the Winter Olympics, but I really was expecting a much better medal total. The horrendous choke by the Canadian female diver the other night did not help. I don't know if they showed it on Canadian TV, but on American TV the camera followed her into a back room where she was seen bitterly kicking the ground and stomping her hands against a floor mat in apparent frustration.

I have to believe that the athletes are there but that the training of the Canadian athlete perhaps leaves something to be desired. I look at Australia's 31 medals and Canada's 3, and I say to myself something is not right here.

Maybe if we added an SP competition it would insure Canada of another medal.

It's all a question of $$$$$$$$$ ! Canadian governments (provincial and federal) probably put much less money then the Autralian one does, thus crap results like we have this year... but it's not over 'till it's over. We have allready added another silver today (Whoo hoo !) and hopefully some more to come...

EGB,

Are you suggesting that Canadian athletes do not cheat due to intimidation, whereas athletes from other nations do cheat?

Do you remember Ben "I am totally juiced" Johnson? 1988 Olympics in Seoul, 100 meter sprint? Native of Toronto, was he not?

Where is Tim? Marion? The aging process?
What about Carl the pure? McGuire!
What kind of test did they run tilll recently on your side of the border!! Or why did they destroy records after the game?
Quite interresting!

Do you test baseball and football players as soccer players are tested in Europe?
What about tennis players!

We have to praise the USA for its recent stand on drugs! Great move at last!
Next move should be all pro sports!!

As you can see, we have very few great athletes in Canada, so we can speak freely!!

Lance is in a league by himself!
Europeans might be tempted to fabricate evidence against him!!
He is a great cyclist!!
And our friend Pound the lawyer might be tempted too!!!

My expectations were that the Canadian team would perform better. WE are all North Americans after all, and I don't like to see countries like Poland and Czech Republic with more medals than Canada.

Regarding Bonds, steroids would help him hit homers, but what is your explanation for the .362 batting average at age 40? And the fact that his body has not broken down as it did with McGwire, Giambi and others? I really believe Bonds is clean. No question he souped up his body, but I think he did it with legal supplements. Those who have played baseball know there is no steroid that helps you see better and recognize pitches and make contact. Batting .362 does not come from steroids. Playing relative injury free at 40 belies steroids. You guys should stop picking on Bonds.

Your not suggesting that he was the only one on that line in 88 juiced? Ben's only problem was that he was not the most intelligent person around and was a perfect scap goat to make an examble of and the IOC needed to make an examble out of someone because everyone was juiced in the eighties.
That gold medal hanging in Carl's house should be given back to Ben because every man on that line was juiced to some extent...thus making it a level playing field....not that it was right, but level.

as for Bonds, I don't know whether he is on drugs or not but your right about his hitting for average. Bonds is a great hitter, but an asshole as a person and I think thats why everyone wants to see him caught using drugs. But being an asshole aside, he is an amazing hitter and no one can take that away from him, whether you like him or not, you have to respect his abilities.

Controversy in the Marathon

I don't know if you guys watched the end of the greatest Olympic competition, the Marathon, but there was a controversy. Lima of Brazil, who was leading with 4 miles to go, was attacked by a political protester who ran onto the street and yanked Lima into the crowd. Lima was able to break free from the nut, but he would later get passed by Baldini of Italy, who won the gold, and Kefleghezi of the USA, who won the silver. Lima settled for bronze, but appeared joyous as he crossed the finish line.

The interloper, who should have been shot with a tranquilizer dart or stun gun or rubber bullets, appeared to have some political message on his back relating to Israel. It is not known what his agenda was or why the Greek cops did not jump him sooner.

When talking about sports that do not belong in the olympics how could you have forgotten about ping-pong?

Ping pong, in addition to stategy and practice, requires as high a level of aerobic fitness as, for example, tennis and far more than football. Have you ever seen a fat competitive ping pong player? Ping pong is all about positioning and not, as the cliche, in the wrist. Also, the eyes blur and reflexes slow of an unfit ping pong player.

It is also nice to see a sport, the outcome of whose matches are not decided by the choices of illicit drugs employed and corrupt judges.

Real scandal?

I'm still trying to figure out why is it that the little blue cow was competing against men in the weightlifting and hurdles. :D
