Check this out! The expression on the face of the anchorman after the hissy fit thrown by the reporter is priceless:

I have watched the video a few times now and still can't figure out what so upset this guy. My theory is that he flubbed his last line (which does not sound like it makes any sense) , although someone else suggested to me his outrage was from the judge's sentencing decision.

It was a very brutal crime and I believe he reacts this way because his quote of the judge brings back descriptions of the crime. "Being there and doing nothing, is like doing it all". IT being carjacking a early-twenties couple, raping and killing the boyfriend in front of his girlfriend, burning his body. Then raping the girl during many hours before stuffing her in garbage bags and dumping her in a trash can. I'm sparing the gory details.

If it was BECAUSE of the sentencing, then he wished it had been the death penalty because Letalvis, the man the reporter is talking about, got a life term. His brother Lemaricus later got the death penalty.

The reaction may be funny but the context most certainly is not.

Of course the context is not funny. But if your theory is correct, this TV reporter's behavior was blatantly unprofessional. A TV reporter's job is to report the news, not to give opinions and make the news. We all may agree that the killer should have been given the death penalty, but this guy's job is to report what happened, not have a hissy fit about it.

The anchorman's reaction to the hissy fit remains priceless. I have never seen anything like this before. The only thing that comes close was Walter Cronkite's choked up response when he announced that John F. Kennedy had died, although that humanized him to many people and it was viewed as a rare exception when a professional journalist can react emotionally to the news being reported.

The Cronkite video (go to the 5:00 mark):

I respectfully disagree. Throughout most of history, what we would call 'reporters' would always inject their opinions into the 'news'. This has certainly been true in most of American history. Personally, I prefer reading news sources where the bias is clear than where it is hidden.
