How do you become a pimp?

I just hope it's the first time someone brings that up. But I was just wondering about the pimp life. Do you have to be in organise crime or just have a couple of girlfriends who are ready to do this kind of job. And do you start, you just need a cellphone and an add in the newspaper or what?
