I don't know if you saw the Grammy Awards but she performed live with Elton John doing a medley of his songs and it was, by far, the best performance by any artist that night.

I know a few people who attended her show in New York City in January and they told me she is an awesome live act and this was evident in her performance at the Grammys.

It's not clear to me why she scheduled her 1st show on her tour in Montreal during the 1st weekend of Jazz festival, but maybe she assumes that since so many people will be in Montreal for the Jazz Festival her show will sell out. I was in Montreal last year for the Stevie Wonder concert and it was total chaos and a crowd like I never saw in my life and the police could not control it. Lady Gaga right NOW is the HOTTEST name in the music business. She has had 5 straight #1 hits on the Billboard charts, and she is an energetic live perfomer. The combination of these things plus Jazz festival may spell S-E-L-L-O-U-T. I am hoping my local connections will come through and score me some cheap tickets.

Her latest video , Telephone is the best one I`ve seen since Thriller.
Only Gaga`s influence can make Beyonce into a believable "bad girl".

I 100% agree, if someone offered me 1K to go see her i would just say thanks but no thanks i don't need the money that bad. If she wasn't a freak show we wouldn't know who she was.

She's far from my favourite performer but she's known for actually singing live in her concerts and television appearances, unlike most other so called 'atrists' today. Her appearance on American Idol last year was amazing and it was definately live.

Just check out this video from France and tell me how many other of todays crop of 'singers' could carry this off live...

And here's her amazing performance from this year's Grammy awards...

Techman,

I saw the Grammy Awards performance live and I was stunned by it. Both Lady Gaga and Elton John were sensational and every other live performer that night sucked in comparison. I think Elton John fed off Gaga's energy and he looked genuinely flattered by the deafening ovation they got. And this guy is a major fucking star for nearly 40 years in the music business.

Lady Gaga is a native New Yorker (from the East Village in Manhattan) and she built a reputation as a live act performing in clubs in NYC over the period of several years.

I did enjoy her performance at the Grammy's, but not as much as the Black Eyed Peas (and Fergie) & Andrea Bocceli. Bocceli's rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". which he sang with Mary J. Blige, was absolutely masterful. The tribute that night to Michael Jackson by various performers (Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Smokie Robinson) was also breathtaking!

if thats mediocre talent, well, to each there own i guess, shes very talented and not only has a very good and refined voice but also performs music, a 2 way threat that most singers are not these days,... she not only has the IMAGE down, but the Talent to back it up.... shes the Next Madonna, (success wise) but much more talented. Madonna was more image than talent, as is Britney Spears, where as Lady Gaga is more along the lines of Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, and Rhianna to name a few. Image with a Natural Voice to match.

Igna,

I had not seen that video before Techman posted it, but that's another amazing performance and the Paris audience seemed really surprised when she sang "Poker Face" in French and apparently changed some of the words to give them meaning to the French. Maybe she will do the same thing in Montreal for the Francophone fans there.

EB,

there are some videos of her from the Montreal concerts last year, on youtube, but dont have time to post them now, but just wanted to say i have a main type of music that i like the most, but i appreciate good music of all kinds and wish i would of took/studied/learned more music than i have so far in life, but never to late to learn, but i know the hard work and dedication these artists put into their careers and i just dont agree shes a success based on her "image". alot of the pop stars today, yes indeed, but not her

Igna,

You are definitely on target with your posts in this thread. I happen to know someone who is personally connected to Lady Gaga. From what I am told she toiled in obscurity playing in clubs in the East Village for several years and built up a reputation as an electric live performer. To be honest with you up until a few months ago I never really paid much attention to her music. When I heard the song "Bad Romance" on the radio probably last Deceember that is when I started paying attention. I heard the song on the radio and I did not even know it was her singing it and I was impressed by the creativity of the song even though I am normally not a fan of that genre of music. Since then, I have seen some of her videos, saw her perform at the Grammys and I am very impressed with her voice, her music, her energy and her unique style.

At the time that Elvis and the Beatles came out they were also rejected as fads or mediocre talents. I think that is because they were very original and nobody recognized it at the time. I think Lady Gaga will end up being as big or bigger than Madonna was. I was never a huge fan of Madonna but like some of her music and understand her impact historically looking back. I think Gaga may have a better reputation as live performer at this early stage of her career. I also agree with Techman's prior comments on this issue, namely that most of the other pop artists today are absolute crapola live as compared to Lady Gaga. Even The Who, at one time a vaunted live act, you can't seriously tell me that their Super Bowl performance was any good. They looked like old men playing musical instruments which is what they are. We have to be serious with our analysis of them, legends though they may be.

I think Lady Gaga's tour is going to be the most financially successful tour in 2010.

I also agree with Master Bates that there will be major babes at these concerts. I saw an escort in New York in January, drop dead gorgeous, who told me she saw Gaga live the prior week in NYC and it was an awesome show. One of several people reporting same to me about that show.

I do agree that GaGa is quite talented & i actually love some of her music. It's actually my favorite music on my iPod when i'm working out. Poker Face remains one of my favorite new songs of the past year, if not THE favorite song.

I do agree that she's possibly the next Madonna & that her 'act' is indeed a huge part of her popularity. But she's a good musician (piano) and has a good set of pipes. But many of her performances appear to me like she's lipsynching. I could be wrong, of course.

But, i won't spend a dime to go & watch her in concert. I'll go see AC/DC, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney & The Eagles anytime......but i'm not interested in seeing GaGa yet.

If I'm paying money to go to a concert, I want to hear them sing live. I don't give a damn if it's perfect or if it sounds exactly like the recording. In fact, I don't want it to sound like the recording! I want to hear differences in the song, and sometimes an entirely new take on it. And I do want them to sing! If I wanted to see someone dance, I'd go watch the 'So You Think You Can Dance' show when it comes around. As far as I'm concerned, if they aren't singing live, I deserve my money back.

In the last few years I've seen John Mellencamp, Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton twice including the last show, the Aussie Pink Floyd show - 6 years in a row, Jethro Tull, Yes, and many others. Every show I've seen featured live performances and live music. If these rock bands can sing and play live, why can't everyone else? The answer is that they are talentless hacks who can't carry a tune without a computer controlling their voice in the studio. And what's the difference between a Broadway musical or an opera and any other LIVE performance? If they are going to charge the outrageous prices they do for a live show, they can damn well perform live!!!

If I want to see great dancing all I have to do is go to Salsathèque on a Saturday night and watch some of Montreal's best dancers tear up the dance floor instead of spending hundreds of dollars to see Britney and Madonna and company's pitiful moves.

Phil Collins said it best when asked about lip syncing...he said "If you can't sing and dance at the same time, then don't dance."
