nice to see your passion, i just dont think this sport will ever be big in the USA, well, it wont, not as long as MLB, NFL, GOLF, and the NBA are alive, and in Canada it will never compete with the NHL. but it is such a huge sport everywhere else.

I agree with you. It's nothing but a very boring, low-scoring sissy sport played by a bunch of girly-men.

I'd rather watch curling than soccer, an awful sport!

Soccer is a good participation sport for young people. Very good exercise and very low cost. But in my opinion leaves much to be desired as a spectator sport. Just not interested in watching it at all. Best left to young people to play.

Guys, Soccer is Sport No. 1 outside north america. America and other continents are totally two differents things in mentality, hobbies,...everything. So, if you don't like like, there are about 4 billions people like this game.

    Cheers.

For me WCS is the epitome of a great sporting event. It's the only sport that I watch on TV or live in a stadium (in Morumbi Stadium because I am a Corinthians fan or in Maracana while I'm in Rio). As I am a former track and fields athlete (400m & 800m) for me soccer represents the sport requiring outstanding physical abilities (like a good V02 max for instance).
This is not like hockey where you play two minutes and you sit on the bench 10 minutes or baseball (zzzzzz!) where fat steroids bastards scratch their crutch to kill the time because they are idle. To each is own...

totally agree with you, it is a HUGE event, bigger than the super bowl by volumes i would imagine, and seems most of the world calls this their #1 sport, but as long as the 4 major sports, plus golf and tennis are around, it will never be anything in Canada and the USA like it is the rest of the world. shame? yes and no

USA Sucks In World Cup Tuneup

Except for Hercules, a very disappointing loss in Connecticut last night for USA to the Czech Republic:

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-c...cc=5901?ver=us

If the USA soccer team was good or at least a threat it would make the World Cup much more interesting. With all the illegal aliens we have in the country right now from soccer playing countries, it's a travesty that the USA team is not better. They should give any illegal alien who has soccer talent a pass to try out for the team so we can at least improve the team. If any such illegal alien can then make the team, he is granted citizenship status, end of fucking story! Would give plenty of incentive for the talent to come forward.

I am really surprised that the USA cannot field a better team than this, even from our legal residents.

In defence to the USA the Czech always have very competitive and talented teams so playing them is never a walk in the park.....

Why wasnt Freddy Adu chosen to the US squad this year he's 21 and supposed to be a phenom.

Lack of maturity on and off the field.

It could be. They have great athletes in the US to make the cut.

Problem is like every other sports, they always want to control everything.

We are the stupid a** in Canada that let the US take over much of Hockey.
Every f*ng expansion is always in the states and we know the only reason is cash.

They put so much cash in it that in the end the sport itself becomes more a business.
They have the most % bandwagon fans per capita. In hockey that is.

As to if it compete in Canada with Hockey ?
There is more kids playing football than hockey if you didn't know.

Anyone who never played, for instance like Doc... doesn't even know what they're talking about when it comes to what it takes to play a game.

In another thread, Doc was asking what the Habs fan can do now that they're out of the playoffs...

Well that shows how he doesn't know just how much here in Mtrl it will be wild during the world cup.

Tell you what.... lets brake some glass and burn a couple cop's car and they'll probably start paying attention to it in Toronto.

Betcha they'll copy Mtrl's fest once again.

Who knows Vancouver might again do the same... a year after !

If you think it is a nonsense sport than you doesn't know much about sport.
Bat-man is right all the way.

Same as F-1 racing and Nascar. 2 different sports. 2 different mentality.
    Still...2 very exciting ones.

As for watching on tv... it's the same as any regular game when there is no spirit.
Ever watch Tennis ? when not much is going on ? or Baseball and Football when the score is low ?

    Better yet...try watching Golf.
Even with the sound on, it feels you're in a church with everyone whispering....

I'd say it could be as boring as watching the Leafs are playing.

Yes even hockey can be boring some times.

So good luck with your pichenottes !
