Non stop Chaos in Montreal

Although I am a big fan of Hockey and all the great events our great city hosts, I am starting to get fed up of all the non stop chaos that it causes.

I was relieved that Hockey was finished and that the city might tone down for a while. Finally I felt it was possible to get back to normal routines. Yesterday I couldnt help but notice that once again, not even a week after hockey was finished, traffic seemed thick. I try and book a room at my favorite hotel but there is 20 out of towners in line and the front desk is swamped. I go to another hotel and it is also fully booked. I get back in my car and head out into more traffic and call my favorite restaurants for reservation but they are also fully booked. I soon learned that it was already f1 weekend and that the trials are tommorrow. This to me only means that the chaos will not end untill end of summer. After f1 it will be jazz fest and then just for laughs followed by a hundred other events. The thought of having to fight my way through traffic only to learn that all hotels and restaurants are full is enough to make me quit the hobby untill late fall. It is enough to make me move to the U.S.A. during the Months of June and July and try out the girls south of the border. Although the thought of paying 500$ US for bad service and oversized fake tits is not too appealing to me..

I am sure that I am not the only one that is tired of spending 2 houres in traffic to get home and not having any parking. It is great for our economy but sometimes I feal it is too much. Anyways.... nothing we can do about it and I am sorry for being a little bitch like this but I just had to vent. This chaos cost me a rendevous with the beautifull K.I.M. Tabarnaque!!!! :p

for the same reasons as you speak of is why im so glad i rented a apartment in a beautifull place downtown, and after hearing your story and several others, it was the perfect solution for me, hotels raised their rates in some cases double what they were last summer, especially on discount sites like hotwire and priceline. no more having to check for a room and parking is great and its cheaper having a apt dt than planning 2-3 trips to Mtl during the summer for 4-5 nights each trip, plus it is nice to be able to eat a home cooked meal (and cheaper) while looking at all the beautiful "sights" from the balcony .

Temperature isn't great
Traffic is bad
Roads and taxes are worst

But hey !

Although hockey is over for now, politics has become a circus show with lots of corruption and Molotov cocktails...

This makes more & more sense. You save on parking & on food, which are two of the biggest expenses i've had when i used my vehicle to go to Mtl. It makes even more sense during the summer, when hotels boost up their rates to take advantage of the peak in tourism. Maybe i'll do the same thing next year when i'll have two months of vacation coming to me.

I know how you feel. That's why, even though i love Mtl during the summer, i avoid GP weekend like the plague ever since i first experienced it a few years ago. It's crazy!

I'll post an article in the GP thread (sports section) that i read this morning in The Gazette. So true!

GP weekend is one thing, but these days I feel like its never ending crazyness. You cant even pump gas anymore in this town. And now we will have a real soccer team with 3 million crazy soccer fanatics that will molotov coctail the streets out of exitement win or loose. Local people in Montreal will have to travel with tear gas just in case a crazed mob of soccer or hockey fans decide to jump up on to your cars hood and plant a habs flag through your windshield. Or even worst, the drunken mobs of GP weekend that will stop at nothing to create havoc in the streets. I might as well live in Bahgdad where people still have some kind of law and order. Next year im going to Atlantic City in june to get some peace and quiet! ;)

How is this different from the Habs either moving on to or being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs? Same shit happens then!

TommyG... thank you for posting this. I was literally seconds away from booking my flight and hotel to come to Montreal this weekend.
... but now I realize this is probably not a good idea. I have never been to Mtl during F1 and just did not comprehend the madness.
I was worried about the availability of SPs. but I had not thought all the other impacts.
Sorry, about your cancelled rendezvous with K.I.M.
I was in Montreal last week and had 3 days of unsuccessful attempts to rendezvous... was not fun at all
..maybe I'll fly further west this weekend looking for a fun time

Go to Toronto. Pay $60 (via PL) for a great room at the Delta, enjoy the sights, and either get a visit from an sp or go see them at their nearby hotel. Lots of Montreal sps in Toronto also......a bit more $$ than in Mtl, but paying $50+ more to get rid of all the craziness might be worth it. And, if you like baseball, you can catch the Yankees or Red Sox (or other teams) when they're in town to play the Jays, which is what i'll be doing for most of the summer.
