Anyone ever flew Porter Airlines? Please discuss your eperiences if so especially if turboprops are more turbulance prone than jet engines.

I have flown with Porter several times. There is nothing to worry about. The flights, planes, etc. were excellent.

My wife has flown Porter a few times and loved it.
Great customer service and extremely convenient when going to or from downtown Toronto.

Good service, convenient, less arrogant.

The Q400 is a high wing plane. All these plane are more stable by design and less sensitive to turbulence. The cabin is hanging below the wings instead of tip-toeing on top of it. That result in a plane less sensitive to side-to-side rocking motion.

Being a turboprop makes it noisy but not unbearable. Nothing a good $40 set of in-the-ear headphone and an MP3 player can't take care of, even at low volume. If the flight is longer than 1.5 hour, I use my Bose noise-canceling headphone since they do a better job at blocking the low frequency buzzing sound.

Even without headphones, you can still carry a conversation with your neighbor without yelling, no worries with that, it's not a rock concert.

I've flown on Porter several times & loved it. Their rates are great, the staff very friendly, and when in Toronto they had a shuttle picking up clients at their hotel (Royal York). I loved using them for the Toronto/Montreal run since they fly out of Toronto Island. You're almost in downtown Toronto. No need to waste 30-60 min. on costly transportation to Pearson airport.

Guys I am having a bit of a crisis conciousness. WHile porter looks real cool, here is the problems that I had.

I have to go to Chicago, (actually I have to go to my destination in Indiana approx 1 hr 30 min from ORD -O'Hare). I had the following options:

1. 611$/Porter Airlines/Midway airport/2Hr. to destination/6 hours travel via Toronto (Pearson) connection.

2.790$/AA-Air Canada/O'Hare/1.5 hours to destinatio/ 2 hours 15 minutes non stop from Montreal in both directions.

I chose option 2 now I feel like I spent money without caring , but then that non stop in either direction is really valuable.

Is there a toilet on board? I am concerned with the poop smell that other passengers might have to endure. On a small aircraft, it must be like crapping in a camper.

No. That's why the price is so cheap.

There's somekind of a latch underneath every seat (which you have to pull hard because of the air pressurization) you know... this way you don't even have to get up from your seat. Careful to keep your seat belt all along cuze you could be sucked out of the plane.

Porter is great but there is more turbulence at the Troronto end simply because of the location of the island airport. You get more thermals over the water coming in for landing. Short landing strip too which provids some excitement to those only used to travelling in 767's. It's 17 or 18 rows at 4 to a row. Service is great. Island airport is great and prices are significan't cheaper than AC for TO to Mtl flights.

With all the funny comments we get in this thread, you might be better-off to check here: http://www.flyporter.com/

Turbulence is not that bad, doesn't last long and is not dangerous. These planes can take some and more. The Dash-8 series have a very good reputation despite being smaller than Boeing, Airbus or even Embraher.

Porter totally rocks! I'm not usually one to trumpet the merits of a company but Porter I really love. They started a few years ago with flights from Toronto-Ottawa/Ottawa-Toronto and had ridiculously low promotional rates that I took advantage of quite often. Flying with them is a pleasure, especially when your destination is downtown Toronto. In my mind it was near first class luxury for budget prices. The lounge (for all passengers) in Ottawa and especially Toronto are what airlines usually reserve for first class customers. Plus they give you newspapers, snacks, (sometimes even small meals) and beer/wine for free. Now their promo rates are long gone and more in line with AC and Westjet and they fly to many more destinations than Ottawa/Toronto but they still remain my preferred airline to Toronto.

And, yes, the flight attendants are usually quite hot.
