Special K will be heartbroken. I doubt he'll ever come back to Montreal.
Many hotels in Montreal have change hands in the past couple of years. As a whole the economics of Montreal hotels is not rosy...
This news changes the dynamics of Priceline bidding. Many were avoiding bidding on the 3 stars out of fear of an acceptance by the Crowne Plaza. Now that this fear has been removed, 3 star bidding should again become de rigueur.
I travel to Montreal every year with a group of about 100 people. We've stayed at the Grand Plaza every year for the last five years. We'll all miss it. A better location and much more charm than the sterile corporate shit holes downtown.
Louis, If you read the reviews on TripAdvisor, they were 90% very positive until about a year ago, which pretty much coincides with the time new ownership took over. The reviews of the past year are horrible.Sorry Rumple, I trust your judgment, but this hotel just had too many people who hated it.
stayed there 4 nights in the summer of 2008
the Doubletree By Hilton Montreal Centre-Ville
$57 on priceline
close to the bus station
free fast internet
they gave me a high floor looking west
I banged a sp at the window with the curtains open when it was still light out
I stumbled up the hill from hanging in the LQ a few times
good times good memories for me
I stayed there back in 2002-2003.
Parked my car in the scary dungeon-like parking garage.
Got drunk.
Cut my foot on a piece of glass on the bathroom floor.
Sp then arrived thinking someone must have bled to death in the bathroom.
Sp's purse caught on fire during lovemaking session....what can i say? It was THAT intense!
Got drunk again.
Called another sp
Smoked some weed.
Banged sp.
Smoked more weed.
Got the munchies so ordered from Alto.
Checked out a couple of days later & never looked back.
I hate this fucking place!
Also the fact that they didn't charge for internet and that there is plenty of free parking on neighboring streets both make it less expensive than other Priceline hotels selling for the same price.
My experience, Beav, is that the more expensive the hotel, the more likely they are to charge for internet.I think it is 50-50 on the Priceline hotels charging for Internet. It's free at the Omni and the Maritime and some others. The Intercontinental, Sheraton and Hyatt all charge. The Hilton offers free wireless internet in the lobby and cable in the rooms for $10/day, this due to the unusual construction of that hotel with fortress-like concrete walls. Personally I believe that wireless internet should be free in every hotel and eventually it will be.
I have no problem parking my car on the streets overnight and have done so over 100 nights since the start of 2010. I almost always have a fairly expensive bicycle in my car in plain sight. I would not, however, leave my bicycle parked on the streets of Montreal overnight even with the best of locks. The issue of on street parking is a somewhat controversial one. Most tourists prefer not to have their cars subjected to thieves so some minimal security is usually deemed appropriate. Parking prices vary widely, depending on the hotel and whether valet privileges are sought.
