Whether it's the Montreal night life, the rock star treatment, or the pressure of playing for the home team. For one reason or another hometown talent drafted by the Canadiens rarely work out. Guillaume Latendresse, and now Maxim Lapierre are the most recent casualties of players that had enough and wanted out. Will Louis Leblanc finally break this trend of homegrown talent not working out?

Mark January 22 on your calender for the return of Maxim as the fans will definately boo him the way they booed Guillaume when he came back with Minnesota. Lucky for Maxim it will also be the return of Saku Koivu.

i agree, the pressure the media and fans put on local talent is unreal, and if they would ease up on these guys, they might just get that hometown hero they so desperately seek.... is this Koivu's first trip back here since going west?

Jan 22 will be Koivu's first game in Montreal with Anaheim. No doubt there will be a standing ovation!!!

I do agree with you that it's very sad what Le Club de Hockey Canadiens has done for french canadian hockey players over the past decade or so. Many would call it blatant discrimination. Long gone are the days of Claude Lemieux, Stephane Richer, Eric Desjardins, Guy Carbonneau, Patrice Brisebois, Pierre Turgeon, Vincent Damphousse & Patrick Roy!

I'm surprised the disappearance of french canadian players from the Habs rosters over the years hasn't created more of an uproar among french-speaking Quebecers. The Habs organization better wish Quebec City doesn't wind up with a team, or else it risks losing a large number of its fan base. My guess is that a Quebec City team would likely fill a good part of its roster with french canadian players.

There's been enough comments RE Habs French Cdn quota not being filled properly... it's BS. Trying to stock the Habs with French Cdn content has only hurt the team, because they tried all to often to fit a square peg into a round hole. MTL either gets long-in-the-tooth stars (Turgeon, Vinny D) or rushes the young guys like Guillaume.

Not to mention, I can see why many of the better French Cdn players would avoid playing for MTL... just look at all the ex-players, ex-coaches and the bevy of egotistic sports journalists lingering in MTL - they love to dissect players and cut down Habs, especially French Cdn players routinely. Not worth the negativity of getting pummelled by the press for 1 bad shift night after night all season. You know what I mean, ask most SP's how they like reading bad Merb revu's. ;)

Has nothing to do with being french... there has been so many english only speaking players who complains also about being 'dissected' like you say.

Problem is money. They have so much that they become pussies in regards to their own 'little' feelings.

On the ice they're big and strong and they love to get a concussion once in a while but when it comes to their ego it's 'Mommy did you hear what they're saying about me ?.... bouhou'

As for the egotistic sports journalists, the fun part is to see some stupid comments being made here in Mtrl and being picked up and blown out of proportion by all the egotistic journalists of the entire NHL circuit.

As for the Quebec vs. Mtrl... it would have nothing to do with one team having more french players or not. People in Quebec loved Joe Sakic and the Stastny brothers.

The Rivalry between those two cities is legendary and it would make the game far more interesting then it is right now. That's what stupid 'Bite-man' still don't understand.

With Quebec, it would get dirty.

See how pussies people becomes when Habs fan starts somethin' ? :)
