This is not a parody of previous threads or issues but the net result of over three months of frustration and hilarity.

Moved at the end of September to a small community about 90 minutes outside Montreal. Relaxing atmosphere - only excitement to date was a couple of raccoons fighting outside.

With any move there comes the usual inconvenience of changing addresses left and right, dealing with various service providers and the fun of re-establishing oneself in a new area, Even if you have visited the area since the 1960's there is a major difference between visiting and living.

Everything went smoothly except for the transfer of phone and internet services.Basic issue was that I was a Bell customer for close to 40 years - phone and internet. I wanted to add a cell phone - old Montreal number was worth keeping and no viable companies provided the full service package that I wanted at my new location.

The transfer went smoothly but the billing did not. Effectively after two months I realized that I was being billed twice. The billing for services at the new address was expected but the continued billing at the old address in Montreal was not. Factor in the new cell phone service and I was being billed almost three times the amount that was actually due Bell.

If you think such a frustration is easy to solve you have not dealt with Bell Customer service. Regardless of the issue you will be put on hold, will be treated as if you are trying to rip-off the company and harassed by their collection people. The various people at the other end of the line are far from the brightest lights and their ability to solve anything is very limited.

After three months I finally found an agent who was able to reverse charges - correctly for the most part reducing a bill that was close to $400.00 to just over $130.00, almost the correct amount. Almost because while the charges in question were reversed they forgot to cancel the generated interest.

Trust even the most casual reader has figured out that I am no longer a Bell customer.

This option is available to others as well. There are other worthwhile phone and related service providers including newbies that work on a pay as you go basis.

Also you may wish to boycott BCE related companies or express your concern to the Montreal Canadiens who sold the naming rights to their arenas to Bell.

Regardless if you have any problems with Bell do not give in. Look at the various alternatives and do not be shy about your displeasure.

Taking Action

You must have missed my thread called "Bell Sucks Hippo Balls", here:

EB,

Saw the thread. Leaning towards the boycott aspect and/or the contacting related or naming rights partners. The Canadiens are owned by Molsons

Prior to the NHL / WHA merger the Canadiens were opposed. At the time they were owned by another generation of the Molsons. A boycott was organized in western Canada and the Quebec City area of Molson products. The Canadiens quickly became pro merger.

My thread gave this warning on Bell Customer Service:

"The electronics sales rep told the Bell Tech rep, in our presence, that we were Americans and that my friend had an unlocked quad band Motorola phone, and I understand that it runs with the GMS technology, but nobody at any point stopped the transaction and said to us, "hey! The Bell SIM card is not going to work in that phone!" Instead, these guys assumed what we assumed, that it would work especially since the SIM card fit and the rest of the world is using GMS. What we all learned is that Bell does not give a shit about what the rest of the world is doing technology wise, they only care about monopolizing and abusing the Canadian consumer and, in our case, the American would-be consumers. And because of this we wasted time, bought the Bell SIM card that did not work, got a refund and then bought a Rogers SIM card, with 3 hours of wasted time following this pointless transaction.

So our business went to Rogers and we learned that Bell sucks hippo testicles!"

EB,

An interesting alternative would be to copy your experience in a polite letter to the president of the Montreal Canadiens ibdicatibg your disappointment that such a renowned hockey team allows iyself to be associated with such practices and how poorly the name "Bell Center" reflects on the Canadiens proud history.
