"Mtl SP's form political party"

"Sex workers have the right to speak too, party members say"

MONTREAL — A Montreal prostitutes' rights group is forming a federal political party to advance its cause.

The Parti Populaire des Putes, which means popular party of prostitutes, will advocate for the decriminalization of sex work.

"I think most people want prostitution decriminalized. People are ready for a change and are tired of the hypocrisy concerning sex workers" says Marie-Claude Charlebois, of the coalition for the rights of sex workers, which is spearheading the new party.

Ms. Charlebois says organizers have collected about 400 signatures from supporters and will send them to Elections Canada to apply for official party status.

They want to see the Criminal Code amended to abolish the laws concerning prostitution, and may even try to run some candidates in the next federal election.

Currently solicitation, not prostitution itself, is illegal.

"We're going to unite the forces with groups that work all over Canada for prostitutes' rights," says Ms. Charlebois.

One of the fledgling party's main causes is a failed pilot project that was intended to revolutionize the relationship between prostitutes, outreach workers and residents in a downtown Montreal neighbourhood.

The project, which failed in March, proposed a unique approach to dealing with the tense situation where residents and prostitutes vie for the streets, playgrounds and parks.

The project saw police and social workers point sex workers toward help rather than arrest them, and answer residents' concerns.

The plan ignited a hot debate, and angry residents, fed up with the dirty needles and used condoms they say litter kids' playgrounds, argued the project would transform the area into a red-light district and forced backers to abandon the bid.

Ms. Charlebois says she'll argue for another attempt when community groups meet with city officials in September.

She adds that one of the party's biggest hurdles is overcoming the public's impression of prostitutes. It's a view shared by other party members.

"There's very little information among the public about who we are … there are many prejudices against sex workers," said one Montreal sex worker who has joined the new party, who didn't want to give his name.

"Sex workers, like everyone else in society, have the right to speak, the right to intervene in the public space and with this party we're taking those rights."

"SP Board Game"

"Prostitute board game hits the streets"

A new Italian board game lets players take on the role of immigrant prostitutes enslaved by the mafia.

It has been launched by an organisation which works for the civil rights of prostitutes.

Puttanopoly players must dodge police raids, avoid turf wars and escape serial killers just to earn a living.

The Committee for Prostitutes' Civil Rights hopes it will raise awareness of the growing problem of sex slavery, reports The Guardian.

Each "prostitute" starts the game penniless with a "slavery contract" forcing them to pay up to 90% of their earnings to their pimps.

If the dice roll their way, they land a week's earnings in one go, win a trip to work in Amsterdam or are rescued by a client.

Its inventor, Daniela Mannu, said: "Everything in the game is true. The idea is to give people an idea of what prostitutes are up against in this country."

"Hobbying woes abroad for US Soldiers"

"Police keep Romanian prostitutes away from US soldiers"

Romanian police have launched a military-style operation to keep prostitutes away from US troops.

Officers in Constanta are running round-the-clock patrols and raiding brothels to stop prostitutes meeting US soldiers who have recently arrived at a nearby airbase.

Head of the Constanta police, Traian Jipa, told Libertatea: "We have organised day and night raids and patrols in areas where prostitutes usually gather.

"We want to test all the prostitutes we can to see if they have any sexually transmitted diseases.

"We have already taken 10 girls aged 19 to 33 into custody and tests have showed that they all have syphilis. They are a real danger to anyone's health."

The paper said officers feared prostitutes from other parts of the country could be heading to the city to "make a fast buck" by having sex with American soldiers.

Over 4,000 US soldiers are currently based in Constanta as the build-up for a possible attack on Iraq continues. Local media say another 1,000 troops will arrive next week.

"Swedish politician was an SP"

"Swedish MP worked as a prostitute in 1970s"

A Swedish MP had a secret life as a prostitute when she was a student in the 1970s.

The politician's past is revealed in a new documentary, Sex for Sale to Rich Men, on Swedish television.

She tells how she slept with famous figures including police chiefs and a government minister.

The MP, said to be well-known in Sweden, keeps her anonymity by having her lines read by an actress.

She is quoted as saying: "I was young and naive and had no perspectives. My clients were famous journalists, police chiefs and one minister.

"The minister did not brag about who he was. He was like all the other men."

Author Deanne Rauscher is writing a book about the brothel where the MP worked.

She knows the politician well and told Aftonbladet: "She studied while trying to support herself working as a prostitute.

"She has children who know nothing. How much fun would it be for them to learn that their mother used to be a prostitute?"

"Bulgaria coming to aid of US troops"

"Bulgarian pimps shipping in reinforcements for US troops"

Bulgarian pimps have been moving armies of prostitute reinforcements hundreds of miles across country to cash in on the arrival of US troops.

Hundreds of girls are being bussed across Bulgaria in an operation carried out with military style efficiency to ensure the off-duty needs of the soldiers are fully catered for.

In the north Bulgarian town of Rousse more than four busloads have already set out for Bourgas in the southeast which the government is to allow US troops to use as a base for any attack on Iraq.

The Sarafovo airport in Bourgas has been opened for US planes.

One pimp was reported as saying that the women would "give a worthy welcome" to the soldiers.

"Thailand to legalize oldest profession"

"Thai move to legalize prostitution"

Thailand's official government think-tank is proposing to legalize the country's huge sex trade.

The National Economic and Social Development Board says it would reduce corruption and allow it to be taxed.

Prostitution is widespread in Thailand but it is a taboo subject for many Thai people, reports the South China Morning Post.

However, the board's secretary-general Chakramon Phasukavanich says just because prostitution is seen as morally wrong doesn't mean it is illegitimate or untaxable.

"The bigger the underground economy the more corruption there is," he said.

There has been no debate about making prostitution legal although it was only made a criminal offence around half a century ago.

Chantawipa Apisuk, leader of the Empower group which offers help to sex workers, said: "Legalising the sex trade would be an excellent thing to do.

"It would end decades of denial that has deprived countless thousands of women and men of their rights and very often their dignity."

"Valentine's Day blues for SP's"

"Valentine's Day hits world's oldest profession"

Prostitutes in Slovakia say they have been forced to reduce their prices after Valentine's Day saw a drop in business.

Local daily Narodna Obroda said many had reduced their prices by between 25 and 50%.

Ina, 19, who lives in Bratislava, said: "Business was very poor. One customer wanted an even bigger discount, so I went down to £5.

"Slovak men are either being incredibly faithful and are spending the nights with their girlfriends or wives, or they simply don't have any money left for a half hour of pleasure after buying expensive Valentine's gifts."

The newspaper said some prostitutes had taken a week off work until business picked up again.

Good to see you here, Doc. Fred even lets you leave the names in the articles!

BTW, speaking of articles on the business, Thursday's New York Post had a tacky article (tackiness in the NYP? Mais oui!) about high-end New York City SPs. They were portrayed as lazy middle-class girls who spend all their hard earned cash on expensive clothes and save nothing. The article was accompanied by two photographs of a model wearing a designer ensemble with the price of each item noted in "tricks" (1 trick = $ 300 USD by the Post's reckoning). They quoted a former SP named Tracy Quan, who has apparently written a novel based on her experiences.

I doubt many Montreal ladies would fit the description. Actually, there probably aren't that many NYC girls who would, either...

Sp's attacked in Boston

I just did a random 'google' and this shocking article showed up:

"Police Searching For Man Attacking Escorts
Suspect Described As White Male, Sometimes Wears Glasses"

April 1, 2003

BOSTON -- Boston police are looking for the public's help in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a series of attacks and robberies in various hotels across the city.

Investigators say the suspect has been targeting escorts. He's described as a white male, mid-to-late 30's, 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-1, weighing 180 pounds. He has light brown hair, blue eyes and occasionally wears eye glasses.

Police said he meets victims at hotels and then allegedly robs and attacks the women.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the city's Crime Stoppers Unit at 1-800-494-TIPS.

Boston Suspect Arrested

A suspect was arrested in the Boston attacks on April 2nd, and the kicker is that he was apparently the former moderator of TBD's Boston board. He left sometime last fall. Here's a link to a news story:

wbz4.com/massachusetts/MA--EscortAssaults-gn/resources_news_html

Not surprisingly, this has caused a huge scandal on the board. It seems the suspect (known as BD13) may also have been extorting freebies from some ladies by threatening to post bad reviews if they did not comply. Others may have been involved as well. Once again the wisdom of my decision never to hobby in the Hub is confirmed.

As several well-known Montreal ladies are known to tour the Boston area, I feel this has relevence to our discussion here.

'Shocking news!'

Thank you for the update, Clemenza. I'm really stunned, to tell you the truth. I just learned that he might have been the one behind the slandering and then banishment of Vegas Bob, last fall.

I had also learned from some insiders that he had been saying negative stuff about me also, in backchannels......which is why i never doubted VB's innocence. I hope he will be vindicated.

However, we should be careful. Even though he might have been a snake towards others, he's still innocent until proven guilty. Charging or accusing someone doesn't make that someone guilty.

Just my 2 cents.....

Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Absolutely, Doc. I hope the language of my post conveyed that he is merely a suspect at this time.

If true, the whole ugly business underscores the vulnerability of the ladies and the potential for abuse on the boards. Some ladies are decidedly cool toward the internet hobbying community, and this demonstrates why.

"Amsterdam madam sets up school for prostitutes"

"Amsterdam madam sets up school for prostitutes"

A former Amsterdam madam has set up a school for prostitutes to help them become so good at sex that they can retire early.

The Hanky Panky School, founded by Elène Vis, offers training sessions for prostitutes including courses on sex and relationships.

Prostitutes are taught how best to present themselves and how to please their customers.

Ms Vis says the school will help prostitutes increase their earnings so they can end their careers in the sex industry earlier.

She told De Telegraaf: "You can teach women how to earn more money by becoming more attractive.

"That was how Cinderella did it. The prince didn't fall in love with her while she was wearing her working clothes.

"They learn men need more than just sex. If they learn how to entertain they can spend hours with the same man instead of the usual 10 minutes."

But Ms Vis, who came up with the idea for the school following the success of her book, Sex Queen with Turbo-power, says she does not wholly approve of prostitution.

"I myself believe in romance. Women should not be prostitutes. Women with enough self esteem don't do this kind of work," she added.

"Priests suspended for blessing brothels and sex shops"

Ten priests have been suspended from the Orthodox Church in Romania for blessing brothels and sex shops.

A TV documentary showed priests receiving thongs and sex toys in return for giving their blessings.

The Witness, broadcast by the Prima TV channel, featured priests Cristian Matei and Ion Panaite sanctifying a sex shop in Bucharest city centre.

Another priest, Ion Sasareanu, was filmed while he sanctified a brothel.

Sasareanu was heard saying: "I agree with beautiful brothels where young people can go and do what they want."

The Bucharest Orthodox Bishopric said in a statement: "We are bewildered and saddened by the regrettable acts of the priests."

It added that it congratulated the producers and reporters who worked on the show for helping them rid the church of "unworthy" priests.

'Saddam's son was a hobbyist'

'Saddam son lived fast life
Palace shows taste for booze, women'

BAGHDAD -- His personal zoo has lions, cheetahs and a bear. His storehouse has $1 million in fine wines, liquor and heroin. His house has Cuban cigars, cases of champagne and downloaded pictures of prostitutes.

While most Iraqis suffered in poverty, Saddam Hussein's eldest son, Udai, lived a life of fast cars, expensive liquor and women, a tour of his bombed house showed yesterday.

The walls of a gym were plastered with photographs of women downloaded from the Internet. "It looked like something at the Playboy mansion," U.S. army Capt. Ed Ballanco said.

The house indicated Udai's sybaritic side, something Iraqi dissenters have told of for decades: A hunger for alcohol, drugs and lots of women.

OBSESSION WITH SEX

Udai's obsession with sex was evident everywhere. The house was adorned with paintings of naked women, as well as bundles of Internet printouts of what appeared to be prostitutes, complete with handwritten ratings of each. One black book listed hundreds of women's names and phone numbers.

"Sex aid steals show at women's invention awards"

A mother-of-three has stolen the show at a Female Inventor of the Year Awards ceremony, with a gadget that provides satisfaction for women with sexual difficulties.

The clitoral stimulator offers hope to millions of women who have trouble reaching orgasm.

The device, called Vielle, is a small plastic stimulator with eight nodules which fits over the finger.

Clinical tests had proved the device could halve the time it takes for a woman to climax and intensify the orgasm.

"Through research I discovered it was often a lack of understanding of the anatomy which caused problems climaxing", the inventor said.

"Women are not told how to have an orgasm and it needs explaining to them.I wanted to break through this barrier and help women with their sexual needs. I hope my invention will help all those women who have sexual problems."

The disposable device has already proved a big hit on the internet with 1,000 packs sold since it went on sale the first 24 hours.

Vielle is likely to be available for consumers to buy on the high street as soon as August and will be on sale next to the condoms.
