Newbie question - background info?

I'm making a trip up to Montreal later this year and was looking into the possibility of ordering an SP. The agency websites mention about collecting information and doing background checks on clients. Recognizing the need to assure the safety of the SPs, and in complete agreement with that, I was wondering just what sort of information they would need to collect and how they conduct their "background check." I'm not anyone important, certainly, but do have a need to make sure my use of this service would be kept discreet in both my personal and professional lives.

Thanks.

Apologize if there was a thread on this...the search terms were so generic that it didn't turn much helpful out for me.

I guess if you're dealing with an 'High class' Indy.
Other than that I'd stay away from these agencies.

Your best option is to read this thread, and others in the lounge specifically for newbies, like this one. There is also an etiquette thread that everyone should read & follow!

IMHO The most important, and seemingly the least read , is the thread on B&S agencies. There is no real reason anyone visiting Montreal should get ripped off, if they review this board, check info in the B&S thread, and use common sense (after reading the threads I`ve referred you to)!

Unlike agencies & Indies in the US, those in Montreal do less screening. They don`t check references like work, other SPs you`ve seen, driver`s license/passport, etc. They DO want a contact phone # (cell or hotel room), and a name.

Hope this helps, and enjoy Montreal.

It was completely legit. I read some of the newbie threads but didn't see this information. The work stuff is somewhat sensitive for me, which is why I asked. If they just want a name, contact information, etc., that is fine. I assume that any of the major agencies that advertise on here handle information legitimately and discreetly and there's no need to try and disguise who I am or my contact information.

Regarding the agencies that advertise on MERB, there won't be any of the U.S. type of 'verification'. Here they just need your first name and your local (Mtrl) contact info (hotel name, their phone # and your room #). But I guess if you act >dodgy< with the agency booker or the girl when she gets there you might not get a session. At the end of the day they don't keep any of the info for future reference.
