Poll on New Rating System for the Spreadsheet

As many people know Robin has passed the Montreal SpreadSheet onto new hands. I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as it's new care taker and wish to acknowledge Robin for all his past efforts.

One of the first things at hand is to decide on the rating system to be used.

The 5 point system is in effect right now, there has been interest in the 10 point system, along with 1/2 points or even abolishing the rating all together.

Could everyone be so kind as to give me some input as to the rating system that you prefer to be used on the Montreal Spreadsheet.

Here are our 5 choices:

The 10 point system example: 7, 8, 9,10
or
The 10 point decimal system example: 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.5
or
The 5 point decimal system example: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5
or
Do not change the rating system example: 2, 3, 4, 5
or
No Rating system

Thank you for taking the time for your feedback.

The new location of the sheet can be found at montrealspreadsheet.ca.

Keep in mind

In regard to searching the enormous spreadsheet...

When I search the spreadsheet I often search for a 5,5,5 and some of those would go unnoticed with a 5, 4.5, 5. What I would really like to see is a searchable database...now that would be nice!!

decimal system

What is the difference between a 4.5/5 and a 9/10 ?

And for that matter, what would be the difference between a 8.5/10 and a 17/20 ?

Also, if one goes decimal, what would be the difference between a 8.5/10 and a 8.6/10 ?

Food for toughts.

How bout a ten point rating system with three judges holding up the score? And cant forget the announcer wispering the results into the mike

"ohhh, look.......she stuck the landing perfectly"

And you have to also factor in the 'skill' level, degree of difficulty...and the number of bunji cords used ;)

And just hope the judges dont say to themselves "boy, that was a very short performance"

the decimal 10-point system too, because it gives a lot more room to move.
The above reason is exactly why I myself prefer the 1/2 points for sake of maneuverability. many times I could see myself getting stuck between 8 and 9 where as 8.5 would suffix nicely.

The perfect 10 just doesn't exist
I had mentioned almost the same amongst my cohorts. With/If with the 10 point system, people will find it hard pressed to find a rating of 10.

Just a few of my initial thoughts.

Thank you

Any system that uses decimals in really only a 100 point scale in disguise
We're only talking .5 or 1/2 points. It's much easier to give an 8.5 when stuck between 8 and 9. It just gives more options and accuracy IMHO.

It does look like we will be using the 10 point 1/2 decimal system.
Example 3.5, 4. 4.5 ......8, 8.5,9, 9.5, 10.

Based on
1) appearance:
2) personality/attitude:
3) service:

It would be much appreciated if the new reviews are rated in that format. For the next several versions, until fully implemented and revised, many rating will still show the old rating format.

Thank you and all your opinions were highly regarded.

10 Point Decimal System

This is one thread where the democratic vote really worked. I believe the voters did get it right with this new system. I salute all of those who joined me in voting overwhelmingly for the new system. :)
