Two arrested at suspected bordello in Candiac

Police have raided a suspected bordello inside a single-family home in Candiac.

One man and one woman were arrested in the Friday evening raid.

Police say the house has been under surveillance since September 2011 and investigators were able to secure a search warrant.

They were tipped off by concerned neighbours.

The two people arrested were being held Friday at Candiac police station.

Police also seized computers in the hope of finding possible clients.

The home is located on a quiet, tree-lined street called Mermoz Avenue.

Let me put it this way: since september 2011: so over 7 months of surveillance to arrest 2 (yes 2)people and "hope" of finding clients!!!...For crying out loud, they spent over 1/2 a million dollars on an operation to look for people they won't be able to even accuse (check the law)....come on,this is a late April's fool joke isn't it? Tell me it's not true, this is the most ridiculous budget spending spree I ever heard of. Citizens of Candiac : march to the town meeting and"demand" public explanations, you are paying for these stupidities.
And to the lazy, never read anything before signing judge, who scribbled his name on that warrant....Shame on you.
Any lawyer here???

Life is filled with contradictions. If no one is getting hurt and the kids in the neighborhood aren't being harmed and the folks are paying their taxes, what is the harm. Shouldn't the tax payers' monies be better spend fighting crimes like murder, drug-dealings, burglaries and improving schools and public and health services.

I'd imagine if the economy offered better opportunities, the "supects" would have engaged in professions that the police deem legitimate. :help:

I think the problem there is that they were not discreet, neighbors complain that some time they were up to 12 cars at the same time, lots of fighting and yelling at that place also. I think they organized gb at time... I never been there. It's a very quiet community there, so people did notice something was wrong. The only reason why le did something, it was because of multiple complaint.

And when police says they are going after potential customers... it's just crap

Assuming the facts are laid out correctly, I agree with junior_member. The story about finding clients from computers is just crap indeed.

Most importantly, IMHO, it shows the limits of an eventual decriminalization like the one that happened in NZ. One of the main, if not the main, citizens' concern is with unregulated in-call in residential neighborhoods: circulation, discreetness, noise, etc. I am not against a policy that admits in-calls in such neighborhoods. It is a safe and convenient way to exercise sex work. However, there should be regulations about it, just like there should be regulations about communication in the public space.

Raises some interesting questions. Suppose the couple had held poetry readings two afternoons a week, and up to twelve cars had parked on the street on those occasions. Would the vice squad close down the poetry readings because neighbours complained about excessive parking?

Noise? Are exchange parties noisy? If so, what is the good citizens' complaint? Sex or Noise? If its noise, you don't need the vice squad.

We really are a fucked up society.

LOL,

Annnnnd...the cost could all be caused by some local old guy who got the idea of what was going on and was rejected because of his age, then decided to rat everyone out for revenge. Hell also hath no fury like an old fart who can't get any sex even if he's willing to pay for it.

Yeah, it's ridiculous when some guys run an operation to justify their jobs with such outrageous costs in tax payer money yielding so little.

Does anybody know the difference between a brothel and a bordello? I'm sure they are the same but the different terms are getting bantered around. I've heard other names too not very nice. I think there should be a 21st century name that dispells all the old imagery like bang bungalow, or Harper House.

Does anyone know what the actual charges are in this case? If there were no "clients" arrested in the raid, what evidence is there (except hearsay) that this was a "common bawdy house"? Is it likely that the cops would have gathered undercover info to use in court? (In this case I guess it would be "uncovered info"). If noise and nuisance on the street were the complaints, this sounds more like a municipal regulations problem.

Speculation aside, does anyone in the MERB community actually know anything?

Usually the cops only show up if there are drugs or under aged girls. In this case, I would suspect a neighbor put a complaint on them. I came across a woman in her early 40s doing the biz out of her home. I suspect she was going through or has just went through a divorce. She was offering massage, but it was more let me put my V around your P and massage it for you. She was under market price too. In case anyone is wondering, no she is no longer in business.
