I know someone who wants to do this from the beginning of May for about 4 months. Anyone know some resources where the listers actually respond to inquiries about apartments? Thanks!

Its doubtful you can sublet an apartment for four months during the summer....in winter im sure you could find plenty of regular apartments from people going on vacation. Id suggest searching for furnished apartments that are rentable by the month that cater to those who plan on staying for a month or more. Myself, i was looking for something along the lines of a weekly rate...but the cost was more than triple what priceline gives me at a nice hotel.

Some people will be desperate for finding out a new appartment by July 1st. Housing crisis...

I see, but if I was saying that, I was thinking of that as a temporary solution for desperate people losing their appartment on July 1st, but not having a long-term commitment ready yet...

Hey thanks a lot! With some slight edits, I forwarded this information onto her!

Pick up the free edition of the Voir on Thursdays, this is the best paper for appartment hunting. Better yet, pay the small fee (15$ I think) and get the Thursday classified before eveyone else... sometimes by 9am most of the good places have allready been rented out. Been there, done that.

Breadman, there are acutally alot of appartments to sublet for summer time. Students going back home for the summer... People going on vacation.... I'm probably going to be doing the same thing myself. A two month sublet, but I won't be advertising it here ;-)

Happy appartment hunting!

EASY! go to any university campus. Many students want out of their lease for the summer only. Check signs put up around the campus and on walls and bulletin boards.

My department at McGill hires students for summer lab work. In all cases so far, they were able to find a place in the ghetto within two days. Many owners offer student leases for the school period, since many students do a midnight move after exams - this practice results in plenty of available flats. A quick walk through the ghetto at the end of April should yield easy pickings. Try contacting the management of the Milton Hilton (the tall one at University & Milton), they should be able to help.
