To all you computer savy people out there, here`s a question for you.

I can`t seem to clear certian web addresses from some of my computers even though I do a "tools/options/delete cookies, delete files and clear history" everytime I finish usine the internet.

For example at work, the https://merb.cc address seems to be memorized in the computer. If I type "www.m" in the address box, the https://merb.cc address will show up. At home it`s mapquest and some other site. When I do my regular cleanup, all the addresses of the websites I was on seem to be deleted...except for https://merb.cc (and same problem with different sites at home).

I`ve looked everywhere on my computers and can`t find anything.

Can anyone help

Have you bookmarked it? It sound weird to say that when you want hide it, but if you did, it will keep it in memory. Otherwise, you could always turn off the address auto-complete function (Tools / Internet options / Advanced).

i've had this problem before. when you upgrade windows with a service pack or upgrade internet explorer, it somehow makes two .dll files read-only. these files have info of your history. if you're able to remove these .dll files you'll be ok. this was a long time ago, so i don't exactly remember the name, but it started with m*.dll. look for it under c:\documents and settings and i remember it's hidden by default. it may be under the Local Settings folder or temp, i'm not sure.

the best thing to do, would be to use a different browser like mozilla-firefox because their history and cache files never gave me annoying problems like these.

MG,

try this trick.
Open the browser -> click once on the address field -> delete everything in that field, if there is any -> while the cursor is blinking in the address field, press and hold Alt key and press down arrow key once (this should bring down all the address` that is saved in somewhere and you should be able to choose one from that list -> now let go the Alt key and using the down arrow key, get to the desired address, https://merb.cc -> once this address is highlighted simply click on delete button -> sometimes this works.

It would help if you tell us what OS you are using and service packs, etc...

Try this:

* Go to Tools/Internet Options.
* Go to the 'Content' tab.
* In the 'Personal Information' section, click on the 'AutoComplete' button.
* Click on 'Clear Forms,' then Click OK all the way out.
Also, back in the 'AutoComplete' section, if you deselect 'Use AutoComplete for Web Addresses,' that should eliminate the problem entirely.

So far nothing has worked for clearing out the web addresses... so I had to deselect the auto complete for now. If any of you can help with my problem in a way that allows me to still keep my auto complete, please let me know.

BTW I have Windows XP and IE 6 with SP2.

Thanks to all !

ah.. good new/old SP2 for xp.
I will look into it later but just to let you know that SP2 has Microsoft internet security thing.
try disabling that and then clean up the rest. and see what happens.
I personally haven't upgraded to SP2 - I still use Zonealarm and stuff for that.

Consider using Mozilla Firefox as your primary hobbying internet browser, better security and features. Google "firefox versus IE" to see the differences.

Let me know if it helped

When you delete your temp files in IE tools make sure to check the box to delete all offline content. That usually does the trick.
