I would like to organise a cocktail "gathering" at one of the chic Montreal hotels and invite some the upscale independents (think FKS) to attend on a professional basis as a kind of networking gig. You know, we meet them and they meet some potential clients. :)

I would like do something nice  , maybe even offer a door prize for fun.

I have a half dozen friends willing to split the costs with me (drinks, hors d'oeurves, etc.), but the more the merrier.

Anyone interested in joining us?

Attn Moderator: I definitely don't work for any hotels, so this is not an advertisement.

Thanks everyone.

and how would this be different from other hobbiest parties? Think Montreal-Rendezvous.

Good Question --

I was thinking of something more organised and private.
E.G. normally when I go to "civilian" cocktails, there is an hors d'oeurves service going around.
Also, I was planning to limit this even to independents rather than agencies.

Do you have any other suggestions?

As I am sooo gullible, I will give BB the benefit of the doubt...

His concept appeals to me at first blush - I have never attended a Merb party partly because I see these events as a lure for LE and PIs, and also because the ladies that twinkle on my radar screen do not seem to favour these parties. But I would be tempted by a more private event where there is some form of assurance that HDH indies will actually attend.

Attracting HDH indies is no small feat, especially the FKS bunch who try to project an aura of exclusivity around them. Attending a (semi-) public event does not jive with their branding, so it would require quite an incentive to pull it off.

However, I understand (?) from BB's original post that the SPs would be paid for their time (presumably at a discounted social-time rate rather than their regular working rate), so that may incentivize some to attend.

Sorry BB, but your idea for a roundup of some of Montreal's most famous tax scofflaws just won't work.

I pay my taxes! Ok they tend to be paid late... but I do pay them!

BB,

You might get some interest in a private party of this nature, but a condition precedent would have to be no local hobbyists could be invited. Enough of these ladies refuse to see the locals that for them to be lured to such an event, realistically we would have to circulate the invitation only to the out-of-town hobbyists and then tell these HDH indies don't worry, no locals will show. And that is just the way it would have to be or this party ain't gonna happen, and that's the fact, jack. And I know this for a fact because it has already been discussed with a certain HDH operative.

wasn't there a French Kiss bar above Wanda's a few years back? and their policy was more or less the same thing. It was a private club/bar I think and you had to be a member to go there and enjoy. and to become a member, you needed a referal and give them some personal info. for them to check and still they can refuse (possibly if you are a local?).

hey Cock, it is an extension of Wanda's now.
I always wondered what that French kiss place was like and if the French Kiss Society agency is a result of that place? or that place was owned by French Kiss Society agency back then.
Imagine you being a private club/bar member and when you go there for a drink there would be these lovely ladies all the time and talk to you. and if you are in the mood then you could explore some wetland?
