It just came out, nhl have made a exception for two players including Gomez to have the team buy back the contract before next summer. Unfortunatly, it will have no impact on the salary cap of the team for the winter 2013 season. So basically, they just pay 7 millions to let Gomez sollicitate another team.

Gee, i wish i can find a job like that where if i dont perform right and dont meet my objectives, i will be given a two full years of high paid salary to search for another job. But the good news (unless there are Gomez fans out there), is that one of the worst CH contract of its history will be behind and young talents will be able to take their place.

By two players I meant Gomez and a NY Rangers defense player that was in the same situation. The NHL made a exception for these two players. Their respective team can buy back their contract before this summer, but this give no advantage to the team, only the possibility for the player to look for another job elsewhere.

It's called an "amnesty buyout" because it does not count towards the cap.

With regard to the Gomez situation, where the Canadiens have told him to stay home, it's very harmful to the player as Gomez has no opportunity to hit the ice and show he is not the suck-ass player he was last year. This severely inhibits his ability to seek meaningful employment next year, as he will be several years removed from productive hockey. If all this were going down in the USA I do believe various arguments could be made including involuntary servitude in violation of the 13th amendment to the US constitution. Gomez is being deprived of his ability to play hockey. He is, in effect, an indentured slave.

Scott Gomez has been put on waivers & if he clears (trust me, he will), he will be bought out by the team tomorrow. He will then be free to sign with any team who wants him.

Same thing goes for Wade Redden, whom i expect will get more offers than Gomez will have.

My guess is that Gomez might wind up with his former team, the NJ Devils.
