Mmmm. I think you're being unfair about the US escort scene. I think the media might have mis-labeled this sugar baby, who clearly does not represent a high end escort. She's definitely trash he found on a sugar daddy site.

The escort scene in the NYC/NJ area is quite compelling and pervasive. A little more expensive than Montreal but good deals are always out there and our escorts are hot. But I'm still envious of the Montreal scene. You guys are lucky.

Those Sugar Daddy websites are quite common in the US and I have a friend who participates in one in CT (which I think is the local branch of the same website). The ladies on the site are not really escorts, they are semi-pros, and the deals are all negotiable so that article on CNN is TOTALLY wrong and using inaccurate labels. Very frequently they will want to meet first before there is any sex, usually for drink or a dinner. My friend found a few whom he had dinner and sex with for $200-$300. However it is a total Buyer Beware situation and my friend brought home one lady who, while he was sleeping, went on my friend's computer and attempted to access his financials (banking etc.) in an effort to withdraw money from his accounts. Just like anything else on the Internet you have to be careful, as some of the ladies on these sites are college students or single mothers struggling to pay rent, but some are just common grifters.

It's disturbing to me that Numerati and other posters fell prey to the inaccurate labels used in that article. You are the same people who are falling prey to Peter Mackay using the same inaccurate labels and perpetuating nonsensical fiction. This is why you now have Bill C36 on your hands, because of a sheep-like response to what is put out in the media. It really bothers me a lot that someone can read that article and accept it as truth.

I'm with you on that. In my opinion our education system does a very poor job at teaching the general public how to to read, write, collect information, analyze, interpret, be critically constructive and solve problems effectively, objectively and at a "deeper level". You know what really baffles me? It's the people who have "earned" university degrees, like Peter MacKay, who take things for face value and can't think for themselves. That totally blows my mind. (or he's just a manipulative, narcissistic, lying psychopath).

Excellent post! I just take exception when people bash the US escort scene based on limited or inaccurate info from our media who sensationalize every story involving sex. I would put NY/NJ escorts up there with a Montreal escorts, although our prices are a bit higher. Not necessarily double, especially in North Jersey. And in the US one hour means one full hour. I would agree Vegas has ripoffs and lots of them

Hello all,

However it is a total Buyer Beware situation...

Yes, at all levels.

My own take:

I don`t see how using any label is ``totally`` wrong in this business. Sure there`s a huge perceptual and qualitative difference between a street prostitute and a top end companion, but there are bad seeds with those in the top echelons of Wall Street as there are with those desperate for jobs at Walmart. And at the top there`s probably a lot more cunning on how to deceive and exploit.

Aside from looks and shape the biggest differences between the top and bottom in the sex industry seems to involve variances in desperation, composure, and the will and/or intelligence to sell a polished product. What are most agencies really doing to protect us and themselves against this kind of thing? Is there really much if any real psychological screening or background checking to guard against bad seed types. Are most of the best escort agencies of Montreal or anywhere going to reject a hot girl with no obvious signs of issues over potential profits, and how many of these ladies are not intelligent enough not to have their act down. Even in Montreal dumping a ``bad`` escort is something that probably happens almost completely after a problem has happened...unless the lady has shown she`s too unreliable to the agency, not because she has abused a client.

So CNN used a label one says is totally wrong with the implication that if she belonged in that label the outcome would have been different. In my view it`s buyer beware at any level and only the frequency of risk changes, and sometimes the higher end may be more risky because perception of what to expect means clients have their guards down much more often.

Regarding the U.S. versus Toronto-Montreal sex industry scenes Numerati is way off. Certainly the Montreal scene is preferable...for now, IF that restrictive legislation doesn`t become law. But on a general qualitative level of services anyone who thinks there`s a big difference between Montreal and the U.S. is demonstrating some hometown bias and/or has bought into a misperception of some sort of utopian Canadian bubble that doesn`t exist. Montreal is preferable for some good reasons like access and legal risk, but there isn`t as much of a big qualitative service difference is certain images or perceptions suggest.

Good luck,

Merlot

I'm only surprised nobody labelled the "victim" in that story as one who was "trafficked."

It seems nowadays every woman who barters in for sex in the slightest, from the lowliest crack whore to the priciest high-end SP, is thrown into the mix with the "kidnapped, stuffed in a shipping container and sold to mine workers" stereotype. Actual sex trafficking is brutal and akin to slavery, but the lines are being deliberately blurred in a strange mix of social conservatism and andro-feminist advocacy. Soon enough, we'll hear about porn stars as trafficking victims.
