Eesh... that is sad and disgusting too. The DPJ would probably investigate to see the parent's involvment in such a case here in Quebec too. If I was the Crown, I'd prosecute the agency too, I mean, they have a responsibility to check that kind of stuff.

"Cops discovered £8,000 she had...The money was seized after police..."

Great. So not only does she have a hard life and an apparently uncaring family, but now the police took all her money.

The sexual consenting age in Wales and England is 16 (same as in Canada since Feb. 2008). Hence, any sexual act beneath that age-limit/line would be considered illicit under the law. Ergo, any fruits of that illicit activity (£8,000) would be illicit in its nature aswell and would then be seized.

Yes, I know the law. But my point is that it's disgusting to seize the money that a 15 year old girl earned through blood, sweat, and tears.

It happens all the time all over the place. When I was in high school, there was a 14 year old girl that dressed up to look 19-20. She had all sorts of sugar daddies ranging from 25 to 40 years old.

It's sad, but in some cultures & sub-cultures this is somewhat norm. As the world becomes more & more integrated, due to ease of communication & travel, this may start to be considered norm in more places than abnormal.

Huh,

Oh c'mon Kepler. "Blood, sweat, and tears"? You mean bad parenting, bad choices, and stupidity.

Today there are many girls who seem to compete for attention and "favors" in the way they dress or expose themselves in the schools. In general society, I am not saying the current norms caused this, but underage prostitution in a world lauding and addicted to materialism and swamped in sexuality is not a surprising occurrence in view of reports and investigations that oral sex between kids as low as 12 years of age, and sex in general among the underage is in vogue among teens to the point of being epidemic. Some documentaries have shown pressure on girls for sex as a test of friendship or belonging to the group has become a growing standard. So what may follow??? It's all so disgusting and heart-breaking.

Of course this episode is more uniquely deviant. A criminally irresponsible parent defending the (im)morality of the indefensible, and a girl who is portrayed at least as being willfully cooperative, even self-promoting...maybe. The truth may be worst; it's quite sickening enough as is.

tragic,

Just because she was the victim of bad parenting and poor choices, doesn't mean she didn't suffer to earn that money. How does taking her money make her life better?

A friend of mine was telling me that in Japan, older men are able to arrange for liaisons or relationships with younger, teenage girls. I am not exactly sure how this business model works. But from what I understand it is very easy to arrange and is apparently done without criminal ramifications.

I am not sure but I would assume that North American culture/legal tradition frowns on underaged sex and prostitution much more seriously than any other area of the world.

Child prostitution or sex with a child is not an East, it's okay, and West, it's not tolerated, or taboo situation.

Remember Gary Gliter, who was convicted in Vietnam of having sex with 10 and 12 year-old girls? He spent 3 years in a Vietnamese prison.

Japan is an odd place. They eat live fish there. But I would venture to say that most of the world, including most countries including in Asia have laws against adults who have sex with children under any circumstances.
