I am a 59 year old separated man. Want to see the sites again. Have not been to Montreal for 20 years, almost 30 years since last winter visit.

I have a date lined up for one evening, Friday. Staying downtown near McGill. Would appreciate any suggestions for downtown or transit accessible sites, activities, bars, restaurants, clubs...

Previous great memories from Mtl.: Just For Laughs, Expo 67 (yes I was younger then, lol), Chez Paree, Supersexe, the Forum (Habs and a concert), ...:eyebrows:

Any ideas???

Merci beaucoup et bonne annee.

I enjoy craft beer, wine, most kinds of food especially seafood, nice beef, Italian, thai, sushi, fireworks, festivals (I read about a couple of electronic music? festivals but wonder if I will be too out of place, the old guy with a bunch of twenty somethings). Also remember enjoying the butterfly observatory, if there are butterflies, animals, nice indoor gardens...

I hadn't really thought about budget but probably $200-$300 per day. Hit a few clubs, maybe the casino???

Thanks for those ideas bobsjim, I will check into them for sure.

Smuler, no, my dates are firm. I have already booked my travel, hotel and planned my Friday night with an attractive Montrealaise and dinner at Chez Delmo. My budget of $200-$300 per day is for entertainment and meals but I could be a bit flexible around the budget.

Thanks both of you for helping me out.

Thanks Patron, that is up my alley, and I do like the snow. Everything looks better with some fresh snow and blue sky. I know it is a pretty big mountain, about how long is the hike? I remember there is a cathedral up there too, I do not remember how big the park is up top... Is the cathedral close to the hike?

deplorable basket case
maybe the casino???

I'd skip the casino... fucking and hiking should provide enough of the thrill of victory/agony of defeat feeling you may be looking for. If you like to give away money then hand some over to a hobo you're certain to run into downtown and there's a chance it will be used productively, probably about the same odds as hitting on a 15 with the dealer showing 10 and a high run count

Wow Chez Delmo is very expensive..I tend to go to the more " economical places ", so I'm not sure that I can be of any help to you
Trip Advisor has never steered me wrong : http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g155032-Montreal_Quebec.html

I am sure you can find many excellent restaurants using the criteria that you set

Beer..depending on what you define as " craft beer ", I can help you

Please tell me what you drink normally

Hi Smuler

Chez Delmo is on a special date. I normally go to more economical places too and even some that are a bit "grungy" but fun.

I drink a variety of craft beers, usually IPA, my go to beer is Creemore Springs. Is it worthwhile to go on the craft beer tour mentioned above or is it possible to just visit these craft breweries and have a sample or two? One nice thing with the tour is that they pair the beer with food.

Ok..my favorite places for food, some " grungy "

Patati Patata - IMHO , a MUST the closest to an authentic NJ Diner experience :http://www.yelp.com/biz/patati-patata-montréal-2 Really excellent burgers/salads. Be advised- this place is SUPER SMALL Make friends there

Right down the street are 2 " heavy hitters " that all people will agree are a cheap authentic Montreal must !!

For Rotisserie Chicken :

Coco Rico : http://www.yelp.com/biz/coco-rico-montréal-3

And a couple doors away ( for smoked meat )

Schwartz:

For southern food :

Triple Crowne Dinette : at the edge of Little Italy of all places

Last time, I found a wonderful place for Australian meat pies :

Beers:
2 places are a must

Dieu Du Ciel Trust me, WORLD CLASS Close to Laurier Metro Stop

http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1141/?view=ratings

Take advantage of their 3 PM opening, as it gets real crowded there at night
Very knowledgeable Bartenders

For Quebec only Beers :

Vices et Versa ( not far from Triple Crowne Dinette )
http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9572/?view=ratings

Another highly rated place ( BUT NOT BY ME ) is Bier Markt
http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/33536/?view=ratings

The nicest place out of the 3, with the most incompetent staff..Total Idiots

Good luck

Report back, let us know how you did

Best Regards

This thread, combined with the recent stock market declines, made me think of the funny article that one of the most pessimistic major financial authors wrote a few years ago.

I forget if it was under George W. or Barrack, but everyone got an extra $600 in the States as a tax rebate in order to stimulate the economy. When asked if he thought it would have that effect, the author said no, unless everyone spent it on prostitutes and beer like the author planned to. The author explained that anything purchased at WalMart benefits China, anything purchased at the grocery store benefits Mexico and South America, any reliable car purchase benefits Japan / Germany, etc.

The only thing that really would benefit the local economy in the U.S. according to this author was local hookers and local beer - presumably craft beer made nearby. Perhaps Montreal is not quite as bad as the U.S., but it is not far off in terms of importing most items. So congratulations that your planned trip of hookers and craft beer will stimulate the Quebec economy and hopefully counteract the oil decline and fix the clusterfuck that is the Canadian stock market.

I'm glad to help the Quebec economy, I am doing my part. LOFLL
